My Overall Experience with GM/Chevy
Many of you may have seen but my 2010 Chevy Camaro has been having alot of problems lately and today is the line for it. Today i got a call from the dealership saying that i fried my PCM, because the battery wasnt installed correctly, and that the warrenty is voided due to the fact i have a subwoofer and hids and such.. Well...i dont think that messed it up. because the fact is. I brought my camaro more than 3 times for 1 problem to the dealership. that is for the brake squeaking. and to this date they havent fixed it!! and then i got problems with my transmission and with a couple of engine codes. well. today was a VERY stressful day. first off they call me at 8ish in the morning while i was at school. i picked up and we talked about the problems and such. they want 1,000$ just to fix the pcm or replace it. i was like? you seriously want me to pay 1,000$ on a car i just bought less than 6 months ago and is about to have 5,000 miles on it? you gotta be kiddin me...they are like yes? so im thinking about it. i didnt have the engine codes till after the 3rd time i took it to the dealer. therefore it couldnt have been my fault! but w.e. the dealer said it is. now im stuck because my dealer are filled with morons that cant pick up a phone or know if someone in today or not. and also the fact that my GM tech rep is a retard! she tells me that my case is closed? i tell her? CLOSED? what the hell do you mean closed? i still have problems with my transmission and with brakes and your going to CLOSE my case?!?! are you serious? i am highly disappointed with GM/Chevy. Seriously.
today ive made easily over 100 phone calls. out of those 100 or more...only 4 have been picked up... wow is all i have to say...if i call my camaro a lemon or something. im highly doubt im going back to chevy or ANY GM cars...this has been everything horrible to headache... ALSO TO ADD.. i brought the car in...as in i drove it to the dealership. now you know whats the status of my car? the damn thing doesnt even start.....wow.... |

Who did your electronics installs? If they did a poor job, you could have a loose power cable touching a grounded piece of metal. This will fry your battery and cause your car not to turn on.
Additionally, your warranty is not void unless you caused a part to fail with your aftermarket installs. If your installer messed up, then you're out of luck. GM is not going to cover someone else's mistake. I hope that this is a matter of dealership incompetence, but I'm inclined to believe that there may be more to this than a car that should have been held up in quality control. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm just saying...Call Chevy directly and don't even involve the dealer anymore until Chevy/GM makes them do what they should be doing.

It sounds like the dealer is giving you the run around and trying to rip you off. Have it towed to another dealer to get fixed, or get GM involved. Adding HID's and a sub will have no effect on the PCM, and I've never heard of a battery being "improperly installed" and frying anything. Maybe reversing the polarity, but kinda hard to do accidentally with a stock battery in the stock location, if that's what you still have.

Damn dude, sorry to hear about your problems but I'd tend to agree...it sounds like you should take it to another dealer. Just out of curiosity what dealership are you dealing with here in Miami so I'll know to stay the hell away from them? haha.
Good luck man I wish you the best. |

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the car...that's no fun especially when it's so new. But... the fact of the matter here is that you decided to customize the car's electronics. Subsequently, the PCM was apparently fried. It's clear from you post that you do not believe the work you did (or had done) caused the problem, but how do you know that? Odds are, it did...nobody else who didn't modify their car in that way is having similar problems.
In my view this is a lesson learned. There are risks inherent in modifying cars. The warranty covers the car as it was from the factory. If I were you I would pay to get the car fixed (nobody says you have to have it fixed at that dealer by the way) and then move on with your life. I doubt it would be covered by lemon law for brake squeaks or your electronics issues but you could try that. Honestly it sounds to me like whoever did the work on your car made a mistake and fried the PCM, and I wouldn't expect GM to cover that under warranty. I know it's a bitter pill, but as I said, it's a lesson learned about modifying a car and trying to get warranty service. |

By the way, I've been in your shoes...years ago I blew the PCM in my '91 Camaro. It's obviously a whole different ballgame now in terms of the car's electronics, but it was sure easy to mess it up then, and I had to pay the price. I learned that if I didn't want to take that risk, I needed to pay a professional to work on the car. If said professional messes up, then I can hold them responsible.

Was your battery (or associated amplifier parts) installed incorrectly? If so, your warranty should be void (on the PCM). If not, then they should fix it.
What evidence of an incorrectly installed battery did they provide? |
