Horses and Camaros just don't mix....

Holly and I went out to eat last night in Winston-Salem for my early birthday dinner (man, that was good food!) and she wanted to take a little drive through downtown afterwards. So I thought it was a great idea, clear night, relaxing dinner, dessert, top it off with a little cruise through town.

We see all these people on the sides of the road, with flashing cameras and it ends up being the NC School of the Arts graduation ceremony commencement so there are tons of people around, restaurants are packed, people are eating and mingling outside. So the ride starts off fun, lots of people oohing over the car, pointing, thumbs up and giving me hand motions to rev it up, so that was cool. it was like I was in a parade!

Then we notice that there is a horse-drawn carriage up ahead and we thought that was nice, haven't had that downtown before. But while at a light, I start to see the horse guide on the street have trouble with the horse. She wanted it to turn around but he wouldn't so it was resisting. All the masses of people and noise were definitely startling the horse. So we get up to the next light, it turns green, I start to proceed and get just barely past the intersection and the horse starts to do a u-turn and the guide asks me to stop my car, so I do. But then the horse really gets anxious and scared and starts to turn back straight towards my car! He's bucking! of course the people in the carriage are getting pretty nervous at this time. Now, I have nowhere to go, the horse is coming at me, behind me are the cars going through the intersection. She asks me to back up and I can't. The horse starts getting closer and acting wilder within just a few feet of the car and my heart starts to race and I'm just cringing thinking the worst. I'm imagining this horse raring up on his back legs like a stallion and coming down with a vengeance on on my car bucking wildly and destroying the hood of my car with his hooves!

thank God it doesn't happen, she gives up on trying to turn the horse around and turns him around to go straight in the oncoming lane. We let out the biggest sigh of relief! Holly said she couldn't imagine what would have happened if that horse came down on my car, and I said you wouldn't have wanted to see it!

So we went on our way, my nerves calmed down and all was good. One thing for certain though, with the horses downtown now, I don't believe I'll be parking on the street anymore!

That story scared the crap out of me half way through. I woulda ignored the guide and gunned it out of dodge around the horse if there was space.

I would if I could, but the horse and carriage were across both lanes, man I was so nervous and picturing this horse pummeling the car in front of all these people!

Dude, you should live in Amish and Mennonite areas like I do, as horse and buggies are a daily obstacle. I've had a few close calls like that, so I try to stay well clear of them, including their 'road apples'.

For a second there,I thought you were going to say you had to drive through a couple of piles of horse s**t.... Glad everything worked out... My grandfather who was from the Asheville aera trained horses all his life would have calmed the animal down in a hurry!!!

I passed some horses on a country road today, and one of them had a similar reaction. I have dealt with this on other occasions in other vehicles, I was going slow and just idling past them like always but I was in the Camaro today and obviously it became an issue..... must be the exhaust note. Just a guess.
