Question Royal purple or mobile 1

Hey guys my car has 10,570 miles and I had to do an oil change. Since I had the car the oil that my dealer used was mobile 1 but my buddy recommended that I go with royal purple and I actually changed it today. I just wanted to know whether is it ok to use royal purple, and after how many miles should I do my next oil change. I don’t have a heavy foot but at times I do . suggestions pls??

Yeah Royal Purple is good stuff but you're now inviting all the screaming from various members about the owner's manual, warranties, why RP shouldn't be used because it doesn't have this or that sticker on the can, etc. I have RP in the engine, trans and diff and it's great stuff. Do a search on the forum and you'll see all kinds of info from various members (including me) about Royal Purple vs... whatever.

Change the engine oil and filter every 3k-5k miles depending on what type of driving you do and the driving conditions. If it's mostly stop and go in high Florida heat, change it closer to the 3k miles mark. If it's mostly distance driving; highway/freeway kind of driving then closer to 5k miles. Or just go in the middle and change it every 4k miles and you'll be fine.

Here's an interesting pic; note the purple emblem on the side behind the rear wheel; yep that's Royal Purple.

The reason RP isn't on the approved list has to do with a component that it contains that makes it a great oil that in ridiculous conditions might reduce the life of a catalytic converter. The "risk" is so minimal it's all but non existent, but due to the nature of the rules of the test procedure it can't get the starburst symbol. Since it doesn't have the symbol they can't recommend it. I have used it in everything I own with a motor and have had nothing with good results. Tests have proven it's merits. Check out RP's web site for videos of shows that did tests that showed big differences. Oil's like Redline are equally as good. Mobil one is a good oil, but is not a true synthetic and not as good as RP and other full synthetics.

+1

You can get it online for a discount direct from Amsoil. I don't use it until the warranty is out simply because I like having all the required service information on file with the dealer, but every vehicle I own that isn't under warranty gets Amsoil, and they only recommend changing the filter at 12,500 miles and the oil at 25,000, so it ends up being less expensive than other synthetics.
