Best Mod == 4.10 Gears

Got my gears installed, OMG what a difference they made in the car! The SS M6 really needs 4.10 gears.

If had it to do over the gears would have been the first mod made.

I think 3.73:1 would be a great ratio.

Richmond's do have a reputation of being "noisy", or at least noisier than other gears. They are strong as H-E-double hockey sticks, but a little noise should be expected.

As to the OP, I think your response is that of many who have made the switch. There is a lot of gain from the gears, both performance and in "feel".

What brand are considered "quiet"?

Might be a stupid question but what do they do for you? Just different shift points?

the only stupid question is the one not asked

a lower rear gear ratio (numerically higher) increases your engines torque multiplication (hence the always terrific seat of the pants feel) and it gets your car moving and into its power band quicker. there is also not going to be as much rpm drop between shifts due to the increase in gear which aids in acceleration.

just look at it as a ratio because thats exactly what it is...
for every one revolution of your rear tire now your driveshaft turns 3.45 times...with 4.10s that number increases to 4.10 (obviously)

however because of this your cruising rpms are usually higher. but with a 6speed tranny and 2 over drive gears this is almost not worth worrying about.

i had 4.10s in my car with less than 4,000 miles on it...it was the 2nd thing i did to it.

I have been thinking about some 4.10's, how much damage is it doing to the gas tank for highway mpg? I drive from gb to chicago sonewhat often.
