My camaro and a police officer did save my life!!!

A previous post inspired me to tell this story!!! LONG READ!!

Last Aug when I was looking for a camaro, there was nothing around these parts that I wanted. I either wanted a 1SS rally yellow or black with manual shift. Well, looking on the Chevys website, I did a search at different dealesr in Ga and Fl. Well, I saw Love Chevrolet north of Tampa had a transformer edition so I called the next morning. When I finally called, they said it came off the truck 2 hours ago . Well, we worked out a deal on the phone and told them I will be there after work. Being a hour and a half away I got there around 7pm, did the paperwork with my tradein and off I was around 9pm . During this time it is very dark and I am on a road that had 2 lanes going one direction with a very large median and 2 lanes going the other way (RT301). I was just north of Gainesville, fl at this time. I was running 70mph along a long straight away with some town lights in the distance ahead and see some flashing headlights coming down the oncoming traffic. I figured maybe a cop up ahead so, I slowed down to 65mph (5mph over speedlimit) and noticed something wierd about the headlights. Well, the headlights were flashing like they were on a timer (ie cop car). I was still looking very hard to see what was going on ahead and then all of a sudden, I see 2 VERY BRIGHT lights through my windshield directly in front of me. (This is where it seemed time slowed down for me) I instantly knew what it was (a car running the opposite way in my lane). Knowing that there was no traffic beside me since I was the only one (going my direction that is) I turned that streering wheel so hard to the right that I was looking at trees in front of my headlights at the side of the road. At this point, I thought I was going in the woods or was gonna get hit by the oncoming car. Well, I pressed my luck and immediatley turned back to the left very hard to steady on a mixture of the right lane and the shoulder. Before I was even fully strait, there was a loud WOOSH by my driver side door as the oncoming car went by. At that point, I just froze for what felt like a minute which in reality was just a couple seconds to understand what just happened (still about 50mph). After I checked my drawers , I was trying to think what should I do. (Idea) I called 911. Talking to the operator she wanted to know the location (not to hard) and then the color, make and model of the vehicle. I told her that she has to be kidding me because it was pitch black at night except for the lights that tuned my interior of the car into day. She asked me this a couple times but then told me based off my location it was a green Honda Civic and it was already pulled over. After talking somemore, it appeared the car on the otherside of the median was the police and he/she had its lights flashing in hopes it would make people in front more vigilant (IE people looking for cop cars running radar). If he/she would have had the blue lights on, everyone including me would be staring at the cops car and not as much up ahead. Well, after the Civic passed, somehow they got the car pulled over. That is all I know about that situation. The way the camaro saved my life is by sticking to the road and being able to handle those abrupt inputs at highway speed (stabiltract and the PZERO tires had to be doing their job). I am positive in my mind if I was driving my Mazda 6 (which I traded in), I would have been in the trees with a totally different outcome. That day goes to 2 things: 1. The camaro and 2. Then MEN IN BLUE... All, I can do is to say thank you for what each and every police office does everyday when they are at work. One saved my life by being smart in how he/she carries out their job... THANK YOU!!!

Good get...glad to hear the camaro handles like that and you are ok.

We get that call in our jurisdiction about once every 3 weeks after 2 AM. There is about a .00001% chance he wasn't arrested if that doesn't tickle your fancy....

LOL, this happened 10 months ago, but I can still picture it in my mind as if it was yesturday. I have been meaning to take the time to tell the story on here and eventually forgot about it for a while. Then I saw something talking about lightning and the camaro saving lives, which I had a few minutes, so I figured I would tell my story of the day I drove my brand new camaro off the lot.

Well, we just need these people off the roads that make this decision. I am very happy to see such a low percentage gets away with that!!

LOL, well its hard to say. I would not have been in this situation if I didnt get that camaro, yet if I had my old car during this situation, it would have been a different outcome.
