DIY stripe kit results

So when I purchased my LS, I decided not to finance the stripe kit because the dealer quoted me $679. Yes they were going to charge me $280 to put them on!. I did not want to purchase the kit from GM because I was afraid what if I screw up and waste $399. So I went with this guy on ebay for $129. Real 3m material.

Item number 130355572086. This kit was delivered 4 days after I purchased it. Also he emailed an instructional video making me confident I can do this. I had to buy the spray bottle + a small amount of soap, and a small plastic squeegy thing, and what really helped me was the blue $6 rubber water shammy from walmart. I found out the rubber rag worked better getting all the water out from under the small stripes before removing the clear film at the end. I suggest waiting almost an hour to remove this, not 15 minutes. I suggest to anyone considering this to go ahead and do it yourself, with this kit. I feel real good about this project, here are my pics. Also I live in Houston, if you want any help pm me and maybe I can come by.

Looks great. I really like the color of the stipes with the cyber grey. I don't know if I have the nerve to atempt this with my camaro. Putting a graphics kit on my dirt bike was a struggle for me.

Thanks!

again, I didnt have the extra money to pay someone else so I took a $100 gamble. Really with alot of water you cant go wrong. The only risk is pulling the clear off before the small stripes stick. With the soapy water they took a while to squeegy out. If I had all day, I would do it in the afternoon, and pull the clear off hours later to be sure. When Pulling the clear off slowly, just watch for lifting in the stripes thats all.

Very nice job. I don't think I have the balls to do this though cause it's not something you can mess up and start over, cause it you crease the vinyl, your done.

Very nice.. How about some close ups??

I'm tackling this job this weekend on mine. What did you do with the rubber rag? Squeegee out the stripes from the center, and then did you wipe the rubber rag across the small outer pin stripes.

I watched a couple youtube install videos, and they just showed squeegeeing the water out sweeping all the way past the small pin stripes.

Did you do it by yourself? Or did you need a second person holding the outside edges of the hood stripes tight?

I did my own as well. If you can install tint, you can install stripes. Looks good!

I used the blue rubber rag after I got all the water I could out with the plastic squeegy. Maybe it was because I had a little soap in the spray bottle? It just worked well because water gets trapped in the space between the large and small stripes. I was also afraid the plastic squeegy would scratch my car. In the video they dont show the guy pulling the clear film off, all the water has to be out and dry or the sticker wont stick. I just needed someone to hold 1 end while I peeled the top layer off. After that I was on my own, the stripe is very adjustable with "alot" of water

The rubber shamy works better than any sham-wow I have ever tried and it cost $6 at walmart. Dries my car spotless in 10 minutes. Comes in a plastic tube and you gotta keep it wet all times.
