Lighter weight resonator alternative?

I'm wondering if there is an aftermarket item that can perform the function of the stock L99 'resonator' but not weigh as much. As I understand it that thing is quite heavy and would be a good chunk of weight to get rid of it.

I do not want to tune out AFM, at least not until the car is out of warranty on its own so I am wondering if there is another option for that.

Corsa Catback system comes w/ X-pipe and small resonator... you can keep AFM with this setup.

Ah, well I was hoping to avoid going with a full exhaust setup. That is going to be out of my price range for quite a while. But good to know.

Are you trying to set some NHRA Super Stock record or something where a couple lbs is going to cut a couple thou off an E.T.?

If not, in the real driving world, I just don't see a few lbs making any actual difference. You could reduce your fuel tank level by a couple gallons and accomplish the same thing. Nothing.

in all honesty, the AFM saves you maybe 1-2 mpg on the highway.

i tuned it out and i'm getting 23 mpg highway, before i tuned it out, i was getting 23 mpg highway

the crap doesn't belong on a sports car, and sounds horrible unless you got bone stock exhaust.

He may also be trying to keep the warranty by leaving AFM turned on. I did lose 2-3 mpg when I disabled it.

Right, I dont want to tune out AFM because I will not be tuning at all while the factory warranty is in place. As for the weight, if it weighs 50 lbs or so, which is probably close to right, that is eating up some of my gas during city driving. By itself it may not be much but reducing the cars weight but 100 or more lbs can make a difference.

I dont drive highway on a daily basis. City driving has a lot of start/stop and I suspect AFM helps preserve more gas in that area unless I am hitting the pedal hard enough to disengage it.

You have four options for eliminating the Hpipe/resonator section.

1. cut out and install straight pipes.
2. cut out and replace with Xpipe.
3. cut out and replace with xpipe/resonator.
4. cut out and replace with Hpipe.

Of these four, number 2 would be your best bet for eliminating weight and adding HP. The Xpipe is a better design than the Hpipe for exhaust flow, therefore it will free up a little HP. As to how much, probably not much but just like ounces make pounds, small HP gains add up to BIG ones.

I have the magnaflow Xpipe and love it. Adds a nice tone to the exhaust when you're "on it", yet is still quiet at cruise. Idle seems to be a little deeper as well. I didn't think it affected AFM sound too much either.

Just go with an axle back/straight pipes with a resonated x pipe from magnaflow

You have a LS3 and a tune. Your warranty is voided as well. What's the difference?
