New Halltech Bumble Bee CF intake released

I happened to be talking to Jim at Halltech today about a question with their Yellow Jacket intake. Once we were done he told me that today they released their new Carbon Fiber intake called the Bumble Bee. This is a new design and is an exact replica of the Yellow Jacket but in CF form.

I didn’t get all the details but he did say that un-tuned it made 4 rwhp over the Yellow Jacket and 15 rwhp if it was tuned. He did say that this is really a Tune Only intake due to the fact that CF material is thinner than the polyethylene material used on the Yellow Jacket which cause more Air to be around the MAF internally.

It was so newly released that he doesn’t have it posted under the 2010-2011 Camaro section yet. You have to look for it by the item # in the store.

Just thought I would pass along the info for anyone interested.

That is sweet looking. The seperate MAF area was the only downside to the other one. Now that it's molded in, it looks MUCH better. To my knowledge, this is the only true CF intake.

I have the older CF Halltech intake and it has the housing built in as well and it doesn't taper at the MAF location. When did they have a seperate housing?

I'm confused. On the older version, the MAF area was a seperate section that was like most of the other OEM location CAI's. It was considerable bigger though, which is why it had to have a tune.

I will take a picture when I have the time, but the older CF one I have is a two peice design, it doesnt have a completely seprate MAF housing. I also notice on the new advetisement it says the MAF has a 103mm face area, but it just appears to be a CF recast of the plastic one with the same taper and then reexpansion after the MAF (this is as best I can describe it). I wish someone could clarify on this.

I was thinking the velocity stack was added onto the filter end as well. I knew there was a break after the MAF. Guess it was 2 pieces instead of 3. My point was that this one is all one piece like the yellowjacket. The taper speeds up the flow as well as gets the tube size around the MAF to OEM specs. This is essential for making a CAI that doesn't need a tune. Apparently this one still needs a tune since the CF is considerably thinner than the material that's on the Yellowjacket.

To be honest, I doubt any of them really need a tune. ADM's is just as wide (give or take 1 or 2 mm) which is a negligible percentage of over all face area. I can maybe understand the one piece idea over a 2 piece....but....if I'm concerned about feeding a larger engine in the future I'd figure that taper would just become a restriction?

Do you have a tune on yours?

Good luck with all that's on your plate.

I know that the original one has to have a tune or the FT's will be way out of whack. The MAF section is suppose to be considerably bigger. Jim was upfront about that and it was even posted in the description. It is a beautiful piece though. Both of them are but I like the all one piece version a little better.
