flowmaster dyno confusion ?

Hi,
I'm looking at flowaster axle back . Either #817495 AT or 817504 Outlaw. I am leaning towards the Outlaw, but cant find a sound vid. I am really confused by the dyno info on their website. It really seems different between the 2. I dont understand why the baseline would be different. Can any dino genius help me understan this ?

The baseline is different between of multiple reason. Possible different cars, different air temperatures and the list goes on.

What you want to look at is the gains. Where these gains occur and how much.

I hate to pretend like the know-it-all but the Outlaw is very new and they don't have a sound clip yet. There's one other thread out there about it - we're waiting on some info from Flowmaster which is the latest news. There is, however, a sound clip in that thread:

Strictly a Sales tactic, there is no performance in cat backs on these cars, there never has been, the factory cat back is that good.

You choose exhaust on 2 benefits Sound and Looks.

Good luck with your choice.

Ted.

Ted,
I know there isnt any peformance gain on LS3 . I was looking for sound. Thats why Im looking at axle back. I made the mistake of looking at the dynos on the Flowmaster website for their:817495 AT & 817504 Outlaw axle backs. I am not close to being a dyno expert ,but the vast difference in the baseline tests really have me confused .

Weight reduction is another benefit but sound improvement is definitely #1.

The difference in baseline could be any number of things; different cars, different dynos, different weather conditions, etc.. As was already mentioned though, you will never replicate any of it with anything behind the cats on these cars.

Is there a way I can like this comment??? you hit it right on the head with this one. Just cut the heavy ass mufflers off and put some bullet mufflers on it with some 4" tips or quad exhaust tips and you are golden.

DayTripper – The difference in the dyno numbers associated with each exhaust kit is that we use a different customer car for each kit we perform the R&D on. All the test vehicles start out with all the factory equipment. We do this so that we can get a true baseline for the typical exhaust system customer. We design every system to improve sound, performance, and style. Some applications reap huge rewards in power gains over restrictive factory systems. Others only make a few horsepower over a high-flowing OEM setup. Either way our customers choose Flowmaster for our performance, sound, value and lifetime warranty backed quality.

The Outlaw Axle-Back system is about a month old and we have not produced a video yet for YouTube. We’re sure more customers will be posting their own videos soon. We’ll surely make an announcement as soon as we get our video finished. We’re pleasantly surprised that this system has been such a hot topic.
