Hurst Short Throw Shifter Install

Installed the shifter today and it is so much better than stock. If anyone has the 2013 and will be installing this, a few pointers I will give you. The shift nob does not come off like the instructions say. You have to to turn the boot attachment (chrome) counter clockwise and push it down, then there is a torque bolt that needs to be removed that is facing the passenger side. This will get you through the first steps. Later you will have to separate the boot attachment from the boot itself. Remove the black piece from the chrome piece by prying the four pins away. The chrome piece will remove, but then you have to carefully pull the black piece away as its glued to the boot. Everything else was the same. Pics of the finished product and 3 key items that are different are below.

Looks good, so you were able to use your original boot?

Yes, I was able to use the original boot.

On a side note, the play in the shifter already is pretty bad. It is about an inch or so of side play and I have not even had this thing installed for a month yet. Pretty disappointed.

Why would the side play be so bad only a month after your install?

the Hurst shifter is a two person install - one in / one below.
Before I purchased I did see a few bad install video's. I have had mine for over a year / 9000 miles and it's the same as the day it was installed - tight.

Did the install by myself. =]

However there is about 1/2 inch of play now that I've jerked the teflon bushing around a lot. Need to upgrade to something stiffer.

Edit: I see the bushings in the above post, HOWEVER I'm pretty confident that the drill install isn't necessary if you freeze the dowl in the freezer then immediately install it. I would utilize some petrolatum (or chapstick) to ease the install.

Secondly, who is producing these bushings?

Member NH-SS is producing the bushings and they work well, but the drilling is necessary.

See here for Hurst produced parts to improve your shifter's slop- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...86#post5728586
