1/8 mile run
Ok went to track today and thought it was 1/4 but they only were doing 1/8 mile runs.
I couldnt get the launch down pat and had alot of wheel spin or no wheel spin and lugging. Here is my best time of the day. Reaction = .952 60ft = 2.36 594ft = 8.725 1/8 mile = 9.292 @ 79.38 mph Any idea of approx 1/4 mile time of this? These bad 1/8 times for a bone stock camaro? |

About 14.4 in the 1/4
What engine is in your Camaro, might be good to know.

In our fine summer air here in Michigan a few weeks back, I went to the track. A guy had a SS with CAI and cat-back, he was complaining too about running 14.5-14.6. His 60's stunk so I was trying to help him out. Seat time is the only thing that will help, especially on street tires.

Practice makes perfect. It will get easier the more track time you have.
You just need to work on your 60' times. If your spinning your tires, you're just wasting time. Guys get nervous and they drive overly aggressive at the track. You'll need to learn to leave the line smoothly (without wheel spin). I'd try a knee jerk launch if I were you. That's where you launch by holding the car at a constant rpm (say 2500) and then you just lift up on the clutch (knee jerk) WITHOUT adding any additional gas. Once your car starts moving off the line, then you roll into the gas. This type launch will keep you from just spinning your tires leaving the line. When your learning this method, you might bog the launch. That's ok. You'll still run much faster than 2.3 sec 60'. Eventually you'll get where you can launch at a little higher rpm and then quickly roll into the gas as soon as your car starts moving. You should be able to pull pretty easy 2.0 sec 60' with this method. |
