Value of the Last Camaro

First off, I'm not saying this is the last Camaro or that GM will fail...but let's consider a worst case scenario in that they don't get their loan, file for bankruptcy, and not enough people buy cars from a bankrupt company to support the continuation of the Camaro model.

How much would the first and last 5th gen Camaro be worth over time?

They would initially plummet in value, but the long-term value would be enormous.

Never talk about GM failing again. Suburbans are one the way.

Personally as a Camaro Guy who has owned one Camaro for 24 years (1976 Camaro Type LT), and another for close to 11 years (1988 Camaro Iroc Z) I am not too interested in discussing the possibility of GM's failure. I am not sure they are going to get any help from the government; however even if they do not I am confident they will figure out a way to survive. Keep in mind that K-Mart declared bankruptsy a few years ago and the last time I checked there were still two K-Marts right down the road from me.

a lot of companies do file for bankruptcy, its just the form of bankruptcy that matters (Chaper 11 or Chapter 13 i think). Kmart, many airlines, Circuit City have filed for chapter 11 (which is a reorganization not a liquidation) and this protects a company from creditors forcing them to repay their debt obligations immediately, it allows for the company to implement a plan to continue as a going concern (continue in business) or liquidate in a timely manner if they are unable to continue operating...hope this explains something for you, bankruptcy isnt a horrible thing and a lot of people blow it out of proportion (not saying its a good thing) but it gives a company some leway to reorganize and make the company more efficient. Now im not saying GM should file for bankruptcy I'm just saying when people hear bankruptcy they freak and think its horrible...just my 0.02

i've considered this my self. if history would repeat its self like the studabaker (excuse the spelling) the 5th gem camaro would be worth in the hunderds of thousands. These cars represent America. no other can had impacted so many people like the camaro has (well with the exception of the corvette.)

That's exactly why most people wouldn't buy a car from a bankrupt company. They think it means the company won't be there later.

If the 2010 camaro becomes a one years model only and gets cancelled because GM needs to make cuts or it doesn't sell, then you betcha the price of the Camaro will go up and fast since the item becomes rare and wanted.. However I see GM cutting the Solstice, Sky, all G8's, and the Hummer line before they cut the newly redesigned and very popular (thanks to Transformers) Camaro..

Its the arrogance of the CEO's going to Washington for bailout money (which I have no problem giving them), each flying in there own private company jet siting security reasons for doing so. BS, security reasons, come on! It would have earned my respect if they would have flown commercial. Hiring a body gaurd still would have been cheaper then running a private jet. Just my 20 WON.

Arrogance is not the word...More like stupidity and not fully understanding (all three made the same mistake) which shows just how out of touch their lives are with the average Joe..

The only thing that could put the Camaro in jeopardy any time soon would be Obama. If he takes office and during his administration passes huge gas guzzler taxes and Gore minded "green" laws, then cars like Camaro SS, Corvette or any car not getting high 20's mpg could be threatened. Even then A 2010 SS is still valuable.

Or you could say that their time is money and it was far more cost effective for them to fly via the corporate jet that they already own with pilot they already pay in much less time than it would have taken to fly commercial.

I'm sure on the corporate plane they have the ability to discuss confidential issues and prepare their remarks. This would be very difficult going commercial.

Plus it wouldn't look very good if they missed their Congressional hearings. I've spent enough time in airports to know that on time arrival is no guarantee.

No I don't work for GM. Yes the government should do the right thing and provide the loans necessary to keep them out of Chapter 11. The country needs GM and Ford and even Chrysler.
