Does or has anyone heard about a IROC Camaro coming? I just thought that maybe after the Z-28 and convertible that maybe a IROC will come out later on, or at least a package. GM is trying to make money after their melt down and with all us car nuts there is no end to some of the stuff that can help them out. The performance people out there as small as we are must help in some way, just build it!!

Any referrence(s)?
Aside from a ragtop, and Z28 (and maybe a version of the two combined) I forsee no new additional models, at least, until the 6th Gen. I've seen no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Doubtful? Didn't the IROC racing series fold or disolve? I always thought the IROC Camaro was in reference to the IROC series...am I wrong, I honestly don't know, just what I assumed.

There have been several threads on these forums explaining why it is unlikely that we will see an IROC Camaro again. The IROC racing series is done, finished, declared bankruptcy and sold their assets at auction. And if I remember correctly the IROC series ran Dodges after they ran Camaros. Anyway, as far as I know, GM would have to purchase, own, or lease the IROC name (they paid a per car fee for every IROC Camaro built in the past). In one of the threads a couple of months ago someone mentioned Roger Penske or someone similar now owned the IROC domain name on the net, or something like that. Do a search of old threads and I think you'll find all of the previous discussions.

Actually the last car the IROC series ran was the Pontiac Trans Am WS6. GM had the license to do an IROC Firebird/Trans Am and didn't do it, and now that the IROC series is bankrupt and has sold everything I doubt GM would put any resources into trying to bring back the IROC Camaro. Remember GM owns the rights to the names SS, Z28, ZL-1, and many others, which cost them nothing in licensing dollars to use, so GM will use those names and possibly create a few new ones.

Convert + two more editions in 2011.. NOT IROC - Penske owns the rights to that name. |
