Just intalled the CAI intake....
Ordered from Chase @ APEX and as before they were prompt. The coupon code did not work but the fine folks at APEX promptly fixed the issue. Crap happens sometimes....it's how we handle it that matters....great job on that.
Unfortunately I live in an area where the closest dyno shop that I know of is about 40 miles away and given my schedule I can't really take a day and go dyno/tuning. Plus it's the missuz turn to take care of the check book and she's a freaking nazi-sheesh. Everything else she is great don't get me wrong. The economy has her feeling like she needs to squirrel everything she can. I just want a cool car. Anyhoo the install took me just over 40 mins and that included pulling all the crap out of my trunk so I could get to the battery to disconnect the neg terminal. I am not mechanically inclined per se I can do some things but I really don't work on cars. The hole in the airbox where the ceramic coated tube connects to the filter could stand to be tighter as there is an eighth of an inch gap. I'll be remedying that with some weather stripping from Lowe's. Plus with only one anchor point the box is prone to moving. Will be getting my Dremmel out and doing some hill billy engineering so that the lip is more flush where it meets the front cross member under the hood. May have my buddy who's awesome at fabricating, engineer an additional bracket that will be out of view. Out on the road I really, really like the throatier sound there is even a little whistle/whine that almost sounds like there might be a turbo underneath. Kinda cool. Since I don't have ready access to a dyno to quantify anything I will just say the throttle response is improved the car feels stronger and it requires less downshifting going up steeper grades. In fact I took it up a hill that previously my car simply wouldn't maintain speed on and required downshifting. Now my car not only maintains speed but was able to go from 76 MPH up to 82 by the time it reached the top. The most drastic change for me is how much smoother the motor runs up above 6000k. Also the car seems to accelerate better above 6500 RPM. Before my motor seemed to get a little rough up close to redline and at about 6800 RPM the car didn't feel as strong. In sum So easy-even a cave man can do it-installation, but less than stellar fit, improved throttle response, throatier sound, better performance on hills and smoother operation at high RPM. I'll post some runs with the intake soon. Next up. Stainless Works LT headers with high flow cats. Great deal couldn't pass em up. PS Also I can't seem to find this Jannety intake thread everyone keeps referencing. Granted when I look it's usually late at night when I'm tired. Link? Your thoughts:

Yep, the Jannetty thread is at the top!
Glad you like the intake. Did you run the car for a little while before winding her up? They say it takes several miles for the ECM to fully adjust for a new CAI, so maybe after a few drives is the best time to judge a new CAI...who knows lol. I wish when my Fiancee and I was down in Branson last summer I had known about you guys and your Camaros.

I guess I owe the folks at CAI an apology. I went out this morning and tinkered around with the fit adjusting things and tightening things and got the thing sitting in there as it was intended. Just needed to slip the ceramic tube into the throttle body elbow sleeve a little tighter as well as the air filter onto the the ceramic tube a little more. Everything fits perfect and nothing is moving around.
It's actually an exceptionally engineered product. (Like I said I'm not THAT mechanically inclined.) It's so easy to work on. I did find the JRE CAI comparo thread. For me I buy something for WOT performance and this product wins on that front. Looking at the CAI HP curve I now see that my seat of pants impression that the car felt stronger up above 6500 RPM. It is. Driving around town day to day my car never struggled nor am I dissatisfied with it's performance so having more torque and HP at 3k really doesn't matter to me-the motor is plenty flexible for day to day work duties. Putting the pedal to the metal and having the motor run smoother and more powerful up to it's 7000 RPM redline is king in my book and probably at the 1/4 mile track too. LOL. And if I ever need to swap my stock intake back in, I know I can at least do it in 40 mins or less. Not to mention it just looks so freaking cool.
