Headers and Exhaust
If I add headers and after market exhaust say SLP brand would that void my warranty? Also would doing that require a re-tune?
Thanks C5 Family!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() :happy 0180:![]() ![]() ![]() : happy0180:

The headers and exhaust will not void your warranty. The LT headers would require that you get a tune, and then yes the tune will void your warranty.

So....(I am a little slow)
Bolt ons= No warranty loss (Unless you own an LT and put on headers) LS3 Headers dont require a tune but LT headers do Why does the LT require a re-tune and the LS3 doesnt? Sorry I never claimed to be a car guru, however I like to go fast!!!! (Just like Rickey Bobby)

Sorry, I should have clarified. LT= Long Tube headers. Not "LT" like the trim package.l They are all the same headers. You can either get LT (long tube) headers, which require a tune and will void warranty, or you can get shorties (short tube headers), which do not require a tune.

Just to add to the confusion you can run LTs without a tune.
But if voiding your warranty is your first concern, stay away from much more than a CAI and a cat-back. You will pick up 10-15 HP and make some noise.

Also just know that different GM dealerships deal with the aftermarket in different ways. I have one dealership that will work on anything without any issues. I have another local dealer in AZ that tells their customers that if they even add an axle-back exhaust it will void the warranty. I had another customer that took his supercharged SS in for just an oil change... and they black flagged his VIN# in the system for a complete void of the powertrain warranty. Now that's illegal but they do it anyways. To get the best answer you can always look at the "Magnuson/Moss Act" It should answer all the questions on what the dealership can and cannot do regarding warranties.

With long tube headers and a good tune you can see up to around +55 rwhp. Then shorties (not very familiar with them so if I'm wrong someone please feel free to correct me) but around +25 rwhp |

That sounds about right for the gains between long tubes and shorties. You can probably gain a few more horsepower with high flow cats on the shorties but still nothing like the long tubes.

Spoke with a GM Rep and my dealership service manager today and they both told me it won't completely void the warranty. It will however void the parts that the CAI is hooked up to.
I was also told that if I take my car in for any issues that resulted in the CAI I want to put in they will tell me the cost to fix, but won't cover under the warranty. Anything aftermarket put on the car will void the warranty for anything it attaches too, and any issues that happen caused by the aftermarket. I'm still going to call around to other dealerships around my hometown to see what they say until I find one that's ok with it! Good luck on your mods and hopefully you will find a cool dealership that won't mind them. |

The warranty thing more than anthing depends on the dealer. Some will work with you, and some will not. My oil pump went up...and lets just day the car is no where near stock..and I don't expect them to fix it. However I am testing the process because GM's defective part caused the failure, not my mods.
