Being Paranoid?!

Hey guys so I've been stalking this forum night and day for the past 3 years and the time has finally come to buy a new car!

My options will be one of the 2: (Either one will be manual)

1.) Buy a 2012 new LS and customize it myself (ex. buy some rims, etc etc)

2.) Wait a while longer for the chance at an used SS.

I know it ultimately comes down to what I want/can afford but I'm just curious what you guys think.. I just feel that I'll have major buyer's remorse if I don't get the V8. Yes, insurance will be a bit higher, gas mileage will be down a bit but there just a part of me that longs for those 8 cylinders...

Also I've been looking into some other cars because I've been reading so much about the problems with the manual transmissions in 5th gens (2nd gear grind :( ).. I mean what good is a car if you can't drive it...

Has stalking this forum made me paranoid?!

If you have any desire AT ALL to have the SS. Just get it. Seems like theres been tons of people upgrading from the V6 recently. Don't settle for something you know you'll regret.

Get the SS.

2nd gear grind ? Maybe if you dont know how to use a clutch. No trouble with mine or my friend that has one. I like the SS too, and was the only option I was interested in.

MyCamaro5,

If you indeed would like a SS then you should shop around and get an SS, even if it means you'll have to wait a bit longer in order to get what you want. A low mileage SS wouldnt be a bad choice either. In all honesty,... If you were looking for a "practical" type car you wouldn't be thinking of a Camaro SS. And YES,... my wifes car will be her daily driver but she got it because she wants it,.... not for any possible gas savings or insurance savings. When my wife told me she wanted a new Camaro SS,... it was because she wanted one and had worked hard for a good while in order to be able to afford it. She wanted all the bells and whistles, and "WE" both wanted the V-8. BUT,... I think that you could get a good price on a 1SS LS3 and still be a happy man without all the bells and whistles. In my opinion,..... wait until you can afford an SS if you have even the slightest desire for an SS. If you settle for a V6 when you really want that V8 it will cost you alot more later down the road on what you will lose trading it back in.

DISCLAIMER: In no way am I bashing a V-6,.... they are fine cars too, but i'm just saying get it right the first time if that is indeed what, "YOU" want.

Get the SS. I have a V6 and love it. I got it because I wanted a camaro daily driver that's at least semi-practical in the winter. I don't need or want tons of hp, the V6 has plenty for me. For me, more would just be an ego boost anyway since I don't race. You seem to want the V8 so get it. If you have the V6 you'll probably end up regreting it. The only thing I would change about my V6 is the sound of a V8. I wanted a V6 and knew it wouldn't sound like a V8 but I do miss it (had a corvette a few cars ago).

Definitely go with the SS if you are leaning that way. I use mine as a daily driver and it runs great (except for the occasional stall cause it's my first stick and I suck at driving) And even being fairly new to manual transmission I have not had any problem with it grinding in second

Wow, hundreds of cases of second gear grind, lots of replaced transmissions, and you diagnosed it with a simple none of them can drive...

It's funny how many of these went thousands of miles with no problem and then suddenly they can no longer drive a car with a manual transmission... And it's not only documented in the Camaros, but also in Ford and Chrysler products...

Maybe you and your friend need to teach lessons...

if i try and shift quick at a high RPM from 1st to 2nd, yes it wants to grind. that would be an issue if i was doing the 1/4 mile. can i run a stick? my first stick was a 3 in the tree in 1976 so don't go there. still love my 2ss

As an LS owner, if you can afford it (mentally and monetarily) wait. It will be hard but worth it.
