Idle popcorn sound?

I just bought a 2012 Camaro 2SS and almost from day 1 I hear a popcorn sound when I drop off my daughter at school. It happens when at a complete stop about 3-5 minutes after starting the car up in the morning, this pop, pop, pop sound for about 10-15 seconds. It sounds like its coming from the drivers side exhaust. Once it's done, I don't hear it again till the next morning. Any thoughts?

You get 4-6 pronounced taps right? Normal. Something in the fuel system if I remember correctly. People around here were referring to it as "the ghost tapping" in the trunk lol

Ghost tapping, I'm going to have to look that up. Glad I'm not the only one. I thought it was a bad weld in my exhaust or something.

I get it too, except mine usually happens while I'm driving. Glad to see I'm not the only one. I'm assuming its normal and I dont need to tell my dealer about it?

Nah. Always shortly after startup right? It's no biggie, I hear it even makes midnighter giggle.

It's normal.

After the car sets for awhile, the next time it's started it goes though it's diagnostics and that tapping sound you're hearing is the car doing it's diagnostic on the fuel pump solenoid.

It's the EVAP system test. Basically it's making sure the fuel system is pressurized and the gas cap sealed.

I always thought it was just the exhaust pipes expanding as they warmed up, like the heating ducts in my house..... Guess you learn something new everyday, lol.

I know I have the decel pop that numerous people said sounds like popcorn (borla atak catback)....its definitely not the decel pop I had hoped for...but it pops for sure. Wish it was a deeper toned pop.

On the L99 cars, there are a couple of "check-valves" on the rear exhaust pipes, that make an almost embarassing noise when going very slow, they are there to try making the exhaust tone, not sound like a 4-cyl, when the car in in "Auto-Fuel-Managment" mode. It doesn't work, still sounds like a sick Cow! the GT Mustangs sound so much better than our Camaros, when one spends 43K for a muscle car, you should not have to spend an additional $800 to $1200 for a good sounding exhaust.
