door speakers??
I am thinking of upgrading my door speakers...
I found that scorchie (or how ever you spell it) makes the spacers for the speakers.... either 5.5 or 6.5.. I have already done a sub and amp for the sub. I have a double din head unit... I have the door panels off so I was wondering what speakers? And would they make a huge difference in sound quality? Thanks

Did you search the forum at all? There are all different brands of 6.5" component speakers but if you are not going to put an amp on them I would pick one that is 4 ohm and not expect a really big improvement since it sounds like you do not have the BA system so they will just be running off of the radio. Do the non BA systems have the tweeter pod? If not then you might want to stick to something where the tweeter is mounted to the 6.5". With my upgrade I went with the Infinity Kapas and I am very happy with them but I have the BA system and I upgraded the amp.

Rather than posting what I should, I'll be nice and say that Taz nailed it 100%. Spend some time researching recent posts and threads. There are over half a dozen just scrolling down the forum within the last 30 days addressing this; "upgrading premium system", "door speakers", "upgrading speakers" etc.
If you have specific questions about your unique problem then I am sure the experienced and professionals here would be more than happy to help. Starting a thread "I want to upgrade - give me options" provides none of us enough information to assist you. Besides which, we just spent hours assisting others (quite recently) on the exact same scenario and would like to believe the information could be used by everyone. |

Be careful with those Scosche adaptors. They are very shallow, and if your new speakers are too deep, you will hit the door reinforcement bar that runs behind the speaker hole. (sub punk adaptors shown)

I got the Metra adapters for my car and they worked well. Since you have the BA system I think it would be worth while replacing the factory speakers but you have to decide what price point you want to be in. You might not be happy in the end though because most people report changing the amp and leaving the factory speakers was good enough for them. I did the amp first but I was not quite happy with the sound of the factory speakers so I changed them to the Infinities after reading a lot of information on a bunch of different speakers in the price point I was looking for. In the end I think most people would agree that the BA amp is under powered even for the factory speakers.

used metra adapters in both of my 5th gens, did Polk DXI components in the doors because they are powerful and will handle pretty much anything you throw at them, the bass is pretty good on there own if that matters. figured the doors are the ones you hear the most when your in the drivers seat so made sure they were to my liking.

Thank you for the replies.
I was looking for some good midrange from the door speakers. I have the 3 jl subs in the back and it is way more than I ever need.
