Why is GM still behind the 8 ball?

When I got my 2010 Camaro, It was a little behind in electronics...no ipod interface and control, among other things. I bought it anyway. I went to trade it on a 2013 this weekend. I wanted a back up camera, and just to get a new car. I found out there is no back up camera, and according to the dealer, still no ipod interface. If I wanted the camera...$1,500 bucks extra. Even a cheapest Honda Civic has one standard, plus ipod interface, and bluetooth. How come a Camaro, 8 grand more, still doesn't have what the rest of the world has as standard equipment? Same backwards thinking it would seem. Went home without the new car.

I'd take a V8 as standard over any of those things

So I opted for the 1SS and added the PDIM (ipod interface) myself

Your dealer is an idiot is all I am going to say. The back up camera has been available since the 2012 models. There is also iPod integration & Bluetooth.

um my 2012 has an Ipod interface, bluetooth for music streaming and phone, and a backup camera.. all standard in my SS..

since you didn't mention which model you were looking at, hard to determine..

but insofar as to why, at least with the Camaro.. GM built this car to be simplistic, it was designed for gear heads and power, not for tech-heads and gadgets, I believe that has been stated by GM several times.

While I agree overall that in 2013 this doesn't make much sense, I have to say after owning my 2012 for 6 months now, that I am kinda of glad it doesn't have all the techno crap my 300c and Avalanche had. I enjoy the car for what it is, and am not frustrated with gadgets that never want to work right

My 300c, Avalanche and the wife's Camry Hybrid, have all had their fair share of techno-gadget idiocy and failure.

The Camaro was build to be a simplistic powerful drivers car, as such the gadgets are not needed.

You won't get it with a base model 2013 1LS, but I believe you will get all that with the 2LT if not the 1LT... I believe the phone/ipod integration for streaming audio requires the Comfort and Connectivity package. My 2012 1LS is a base, base, base model Camaro but it still integrates with my phone for bluetooth calling and to be honest I think the 1LS features are exactly what I wanted... nothing more, nothing less.

This looks like a case of wanting to buy the cheap model and still get all the features of the upper models.

Wishful thinking at best.

There are lots of different models with different features and prices so we can all get what we want. What you want is all included as standard on the 2LT, 2SS, and ZL1 models.

GM didn't design the camaro to compete with the civic. it you want a car that tries to compete in that segment then you need to be shopping for a cobalt, focus, sentra, or corolla.

If you bought an LS then no, it didn't. If you bought a higher trim level then you just didn't know you had it. Camaro has had USB integration from the start. Reverse camera was added in 2012.

my 2011 has all of that...i like the whole simplistic retro look in the interior though. My fiancee is about to buy a Honda Accord and I rode with her on the test drive. I felt like I was back in the stone age with all the bells and whistles that thing had on it

Hers list price loaded out to the brim has more features and still is cheaper than mine.

...and a 1SS w/ RS package (don't know that the USB port and camera are part of the RS pkg - I don't think so).
