So last week my father and I set out on a trip that neither one of us will ever forget. I had planned on taking my camaro but due to weather that did not happen. Our quest, to drive from Rapid City, SD to Las Vegas for SEMA then on to Pomona, CA for the NHRA finals.
It all started about 5AM Tuesday morning. 20 degrees, snowing and sleeting. Lovely weather for South Dakota this time of year. By the time we hit Gillette Wyoming (normally 1hr 20mins, took us about 2hrs 30mins) we thought that the weather had cleared only to hit more crappy weather and ice covered roads for about another 150 miles. Despite the weather set back we still managed to get into Vegas about 11pm checked into the hotel and crashed. The next 3 days we spent from open to close at SEMA and we didn't even get to see everything. My dad had said that he heard SEMA was like the best car show you have ever been to, time by 10 on steroids. And for those that have never been there I think that is an understatement. Saturday morning found us back on the road to California. 70+ degrees and excellent travel weather. Got to Pomona in about 4ish hrs and headed straight to the drag strip for qualifying. Wondering through the pits and venders and back up to the stands for pro runs. About 5 pm headed to the hotel for the night only to get back to the track at 9am. Pomona, CA 74 degrees slight breeze perfect weather. The races were amazing. A little disappointed that John Force could not lock down another win, and that Brittany Force smoked the tires at the line in the semis but over all it was a great day. Races ended about 5ish and back on the road about 6. Straight drive back north to St. George, Ut. (about 2hrs north of Las Vegas) Spent the night there and then headed the 14 hrs back to SD. Over all I couldn't have asked for a more awesome week. 2 huge gear heads taking on a 3000 mile trip to two of the the biggest auto events in the nation. Still loading pictures, took over 1500 pictures and about 30mins worth of video. Will post some when I finally get them all loaded LOL

Man, seems like the first part of the trip was a bit treacherous! Good to hear you made it safely though. Must have been exciting! Can't wait to see the pictures! Be sure to post some of them when you can!

Glad to hear you and your father had a good time. I just got married 2 months ago and I can't wait to have kids. I hope my son or daughter and I share my interest in cars and motorcycles. I would love to have an experience like you and your father had.
