ZL1 shifter

Looking at trading my 12 SS in on a 14 ZL1

My SS is an automatic and the ZL1 is a manual

I have driven an SS with the stock shifter but never the ZL1 if I'm not mistaken the ZL1 gets a different short throw shifter is that correct?

I am concerned shifting in stop and go traffic where as now put in drive and go unless playing in manual mode

This isn't a question of auto vs manual its about the shifter and the throws

The only automatic is 1500 mies away and 6 speed 800

Would really appreciate any input

Don't know much about the shifter part. All my "toy" cars have been manual for years . When I bought this "Z" I went to an automatic. Never looked back and just love it. Glad I got an auto !

Everyone has difference tastes though so I think you can't go wrong with either one. This car is amazing no matter what you have.

Good luck

Zl1 shifter is short throw but to be honest the throws don't feel much shorter than my 2010. Shifting is much smoother for sure in the Z.

I find the clutch stiffness to be more of an issue than the shifts in stop and go traffic. That being said it's really not all that bad but i do not use mine as a daily driver.

I had a manual in my 2011 SS. I like the ZL1 better. It's not much different. The shift feel is better and makes it easier to shift.

I went with manual because to me it's more fun. Haven't had an issue yet to include heavy Seattle traffic once.

Though I experience stop and go traffic I still wish I kind of went manual. I've even had thoughts of a conversion. If it wasn't expensive to do a swap I would do it. Cause the last thing I wanna do is trade for another one. Lesson learned this time, the fun factor is in the manual for me. Auto is ok, but maybe after mods I'll change my opinion

I love my manual transmission but not in stop and go traffic. If you travel in bumper to bumper traffic get the automatic. I hate to say it but the automatic is even faster than the manual by a little. Another thing is in drag racing it's pretty hard to hit the exact shift point without hitting the rev limiter in a manual transmission. I finally have gotten pretty good at it but things happen so fast I usually feel that I'm over compensating by shifting too soon.

I commute in DC traffic (worst in country) and I'm fine with my manual. When you've driven it for years, you don't even think about it. Just don't expect to be sipping your coffee much.

The zl1 shifter is really decent for a stock piece. I think it is very good blend of no NHV to decent shift.

that being said there are more precice shifters but you usually get a big more noise. it does shift different than the SS hurst though. In my mind the factory hust was atad notchier but it has been a while since I have driven one.

I don't mind driving my car at all in stop and go traffic with the dual disc and stock shifter.

I would really just try to get some seat time though.

He is right about practice before hitting the traffic. One good thing to note is that the clutch is super duty so you don't have to worry about burning it out soon.
