KB Boost-A-Pump Question
Do these modules place additional strain on the fuel pump in such a way that the life span is reduced? I understand that increasing the voltage will ensure sufficient fuel is getting pumped (up to a certain limit anyways), but will this module reduce the life of the OEM pump significantly? I was just wondering about this...
Thanks ![]()

Personally I don't think it will affect the life of the OEM pump much at all. I believe these are typically installed so that they only are "ON" at WOT or while in boost .. typical driving or idle time I don't believe it is "ON" so there is no difference ..

They only on at WOT throttle plus most fuel pumps will give a working voltage range of like 10 to 16v

You should be fine Radz28... You are not running it "over-voltage" long enough to heat the windings up much.

Cool article from Jim Bell Andy... Agree with low voltage problems or if injectors are near 100% duty cycle, but it is opposite with large pumps that run on reduced voltage while cruising to lower fuel heating and pumping losses. I'll bet the boost-a-pump is a great solution for many here.

yea my last car had the problem of losing voltage to the fuel pump.. jannetty had to rewire so fuel pump saw 12v or more..
I have a boost-a-pump going in next week..

In the 20+ years we have never had a pump failure with a Boost-a-pump. it is a safe proven system. You will not have an issue.

Use a wire gaugesize one up from stock for any splice. Don't use butt connectors, solder and heat shrink it. And the biggy, GROUND, GROUND, GROUND. Did I mention that the GROUND is the No.1 most important electrical connection? Bad ground = unit failure.

Where are people mounting the control knob... is it something that really needs immediate access other than when tuning?

but agreed always solder.. ground def up there with problems.. people do power wire good and solder then just put ground wire under a nut LoL

Understand on stock system. Just pointing out most "boost a pump" failures are a result of install issues, not that it's a bad unit.

I knew quite a few mustang guys with boost-a-pumps they never had failure. they use to be at the track with me in fayetteville 2 to 3 times a week..
