MY CAR WEIGHS 4600 LBS????

Ok, I'm hoping someone can help me out because I'm in a very heated debate with my buddy about the weight of our two cars. I have a 2LT and he has an 06 Magnum R/T. He's trying to tell me that his car weighs 5500 lbs and thats why I was able to stay so close to him at the strip. I tell him 5500 lbs is horseshit, all of my personal research shows the Magnums to be around 4500ish. He then asks me what my car weighs and I confidently tell him "3700 lbs good sir" and he opens up my driver door and points at a sticker that has my weigh marked at 4606 lbs. WTF CHEESE SAUCE IS THIS?!?! Everything, every single thing, I have ever read related to the Camaros weigh puts it between 37-3900 lbs. Is my personal information this skewed? Its even marked as such on Chevrolets website. I'm so confused. I think I need to lie down.....

The weight listed inside the door is for a fully loaded car, fuel passengers and cargo or luggage. What is the weight of your car on your registration paper?

What is on the inside of the door is not the correct curb weight. It is always different. Like someone else said 3700 V6, 3900 V8.

The number you are pulling from the sticker inside your door is what is called GVWR or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. It is siimply the maximum weight your vehicle is rated to carry. The sticker should include a front and rear axle number also.

What this means is that your Camaro, whatever it weighs depending on options, etc., is capapble of that GVWR number minus your cars weight.

So for example if your GVWR is 4,600 pounds and your Camaro weighs 3,800 pounds, then your car has a rated capacity for an additional 800 pounds.

You can divide the 800 pounds in any way you see fit...............passengers, cargo in the trunk. But no more than 800 pounds.

Hope that makes sense.

What is that weight labeled? Is it GVWR? If so GVWR is the maximum allowable total mass of a road vehicle - i.e including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, cargo, and trailer tongue weight.

Basically it is saying if your car weighs 3700 you can put 900 lbs of stuff in it.

^^^This

that's the maximum load your car can safely handle. If your buddy is using that sticker that'd be why his guess for his car is 1000lbs high as well.

you got a truck weigh station or city dump near you? that's how I always weighed my vehicles before going to the track haha my s10 was about 1400kg with me in it. Havn't been to the scales with the camaro yet.
