Oil pressure question

So i believe i already know the answer to this question, but would love some input. Finished my build and got it started and noticed something different with my oil pressure. Cold idle i have roughly 50-60 on my oil pressure gauge. It never drops below roughly 45-50. Even when fully warm. Now its an L99 and from what ive read it already came with a higher pressure pump from the factory. I deleted the dod/afm and changed to an Ls3. Curious if this is normal and the result of deleting all those parts. Thoughts?

Well its not using any pressure for the VLOM, VVT phaser, or the AFM lifters, so it would make sense I guess. But I am not really sure if it works like that, in other words...do you lose a little pressure running through multiple pressure controlled parts/devices and gain pressure when those parts are eliminated? I don't know. I thought you went aftermarket with your pump on this build though? I lost track since you did so much on this.

Now my LS3 has a Melling 10296 HV pump and I idle at 42psi warm. Cold start is just like yours and when I get on it it gets near 65psi. My L99 always had fairly high oil pressure, but not quite as high as the Melling in my LS3.

Most i talked to said the L99 factory pump had a good track record so i kept it. Was about the only thing i touched that i kept stock lol

Yea, it's a great pump, especially for a factory part. Most of the L99 cam swaps I have seen people tend to keep theirs. LS3 guys usually upgrade.

When I rebuild my L99 I will upgrade to another Melling 10296 only because my L99 had 153k miles on it.
