How much does that engine weight?
Something like this also wouldn't be bad:-) http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...ad.php?t=96631 Or maybe this http://img381.imageshack.us/my.php?i...mellingdx2.jpg |

Dream engine: LS9
Reality engine: LSA at best I better start saving more $$$... When I first read this post, I wondered about a big block and such, but that's too old school, IMHO. As much as I've read and researched big blocks, there's just no reason to put that 50 year old tech' in a brand new car. There are so many other options (not necessarily better ) out there, it's almost like taking a few steps back. I mean really, other than cubic inches, there aren't really too many other benefits I can think of off the top of my head. For some perspective, an all-aluminum ZL1 long block weighed as much as a iron headed small block. An L88 was like another 100 lbs. more than that ZL1. Now, consider the Gen. I and Gen. II small blocks weigh almost 60-100 lbs. more than a Gen. III/IV small block, and there's a problem. If you stuff another 100 lbs. of supercharger on top of that Gen. IV, then you have probably more reliability, efficiency, and durability, not to mention more power than a stock ZL1, then you could be taking a step back with the big block. It's known that ZL1s were running 600+ horse' through headers and that in street trim the OEM exhaust choked 'power at least 100+, AND, SAE testing nowadays is more conservative than then. Shoot; I think back then, you were luck to run a water pump, let along power steering pump, alternator, and smog pump. Now, you're testing with manifolds all the accessories, and who knows what else. I'm all for a 572 big block, but you can probably get almost as much power, I'd venture to say, with an LS9, in stock trim (with headers like you'd run on a 572,) in an all-around better package, and be able to actually drive it on the street. Gen. IV/V power all the way baby! Now a 427+ Gen. III/IV is a different matter

Guess I am an old slug. I will be happy with the LS3. Only change I would make is to rate it at 425 HP. (Seems more appropriate than 422.)

Here's my choice, already talking to hotrod builder in town to see if this can be swapped in the new gen 5, if not, then I'll just have to get a MAG S/C and drive it like I stole it. ")

For me in a new sports car i can only imagine a clean running, relatively gas efficient, and very strong motor. Motors like that are just meant for sticking in hot rods and other older sports cars. The LSA with a blower is all I'm hoping for.

I couldn't agree more i guess it just depends what you want to do with the car, were I live there are lots of twisty roads so I'm thinking more along the lines of chassis upgrades, that will give me more benefit than a power boost. Of course I want to drive the car as is first, the SS looks like it could be a very competent street car I don't think the weight will actually hurt it that much.

Agreed. I think the LSA would offer plenty of power in a still manageable package. I don't see the appeal of taking a perfectly good new car and ruining the drivability by putting a 1200hp motor in it. It might be faster in a straight line than a more expensive car, but it would ruin the well put together package. Just not worth it.
