Cecil County Test and Tune 4/15/15
Brought my 6 speed manual ZL-1 to the track last night. I am still 100% stock and I was running on street tires (Falken Azeni 453's set at 20 psi). This was my third time at the track with this car.
I beat my previous personal best of 12.383 at 117.85 with a 60 ft of 2.114. Last night I ran: 12.269 @ 116.29 with 2.057 60ft 12.596 @ 115.94 with 2.251 60ft (spun tires) 12.410 @ 118.07 with 2.192 60ft 12.341 @ 116.43 with 2.146 60ft 12.592 @ 116.65 with 2.067 60ft (missed 2nd) Ran one final time , but missed 2nd again and aborted the run, either the clutch was heating up or the driver was getting tired so I quit. All in all, I am happy with the night, but I feel the car has an 11.xx run in it in this configuration if only the driver could pull it together, LOL. |

12.2 and a manual on street tires is respectable. I never got that fast before I switched to drag radials. It was just a lot harder to be consistent with the street tires. Real fine line between blowing the tires off and hooking. The best I did with the stock Goodyear's was a 1.9 60' @ 12.4 hot lapping it. When I started getting 1.9 60's I decided it was time to change to drag radials.

I haven't gotten a 60 ft under 2.0 yet. It is frustrating, but I haven't given up yet.

It took many runs for me too get under 2.0 and I tried all different methods. Probably why I just had to replace the clutch. I heard if you do long smokey burnouts the stock rubber hooks better, but I didnt want to burn through a set that quickly which is another reason I bought the drag radials. Im not worried about burning them up and I'm impressed as I have been getting 1.7 60's and have about 100 passes on them and think they will take a 100 more. I really hope to get better 60' this year.

I will be up there in the next few weeks with mine. PB stock was 12.0 which only time at track will stock. Now going back with pretty much full bolt on. Somewhere around high 10. My best 60 on street tires was 1.78 at cecil on the 12.0 run. Good luck and hope to catch you up there one day.

I was going through all my time slips from all my cars and the best 60ft I ever had was with my 05 GTO in the 1.9 range. I also pulled 1.9 in my 68 Camaro with BF Goodrich drag radials. You guys pulling the 1.7's is impressive. I will keep trying.

Key is getting the tires hott enough and with an A6 I usually load convertor to around 1000-1200. And she rips out of the whole but this year I'll have Drag radials and hoping to be in the 1.50 range. Practice practice!
