And still another version.....

....of the Mustang.....

Okay, this one is a very limited edition, more along the lines of the Iacocca version, but still....

I wouldn't say it's a completely new version, Hertz has had a special edition for awhile.

True, but weren't they all coupes?

Either way, it seems Ford and their aftermarket partners slap a different coat of paint on it, throw some wheels on it (and they seem to get uglier each time), and maybe a stripe package, and suddenly, it's a "special edition". Many times, they don't even do any performance upgrades.

I'm all for more American muscle, I really am. I just think that too many "special editions" dilute the "specialness" of American Muscle.

Edit: I just noticed you mentioned the Hertz version....you are right. This one is a Hurst version. Two different companies.

most of their special editions, going back to the 60's have been decal packages.

Ahh, Hurst. I just skimmed, saw the gold accents and thought it was Hertz. My bad.

Special editions are just marketing ploys to sell more cars, nothing more. It's not just Ford that does the cosmetic upgrade only (hell, consider the Transformers Camaro they just released, or all those pace car edition Corvettes), but there are a couple of them that are legitimate. The Mach 1 and Bullitt come to mind.
