dealer emailed me to come look at a 2012 ZL1
Went to look at it, is nice, but I really want a Crystal red with 6 spd, polished wheels. have to order it, Supposedly.... They want an additional 4998 dealer mark up for the Ashen grey , 6 spd they now have and an additional 600 for the Crystall Red. IF they can get it. any advice on the markup? total would be $63, 890 I think that is a bit high...????

Do not and I repeat do not pay markup wait until later this year and you'll be able to get a 13' at invoice if you shop around.

Got a similar email but I have no plans of checking that out because I don't want to fall in love and can't afford it.

Thats a sweet car. But is selling the farm really worth it? I will never pay $60k+ for a Camaro. I love my SS but I would get a Grand Sport over a Camaro at that price point for sure.

I wonder sometimes (to myself) how many would-be buyers who are gung-ho about the ZL1 realize the federal "gas guzzler" tax on this bad boy is $2.4k (according to my dealer) and that the automatic is rated at 12 mpg in the city (if memory serves me correctly).
Not that it really matters but these "minor" facts tend to be "overlooked" quite often. I'm guessing most buyers really can afford what it takes to drive this baby on more than just every other weekend or holiday. Oh, in response to the OP's question: if you don't care about the 2013 technology, a '12 sounds just "fine".

It's obvious you are a good customer of theirs and the Salesmen all know that selling that car at that kind of mark-up is going to net them a bigger paycheck. They are canvasing all their previous buyers hoping to hook one.
No way would I pay the mark-up... there are plenty of dealers out there who have a policy of no dealer markup... Hit up auto trader and find one... that's what I did... |

Don't pay ANY mark-up
There are dealers on this board, I suspect, who will set you up with what you want for MSRP. Youy may have to wait a little but so what? Paying mark-up is for those who have to be the first on their block to.............

Mark up is for the car buyers who just can not wait a few months and save big. Patience can be rewarding.
