How to improve the chances of getting your camaro to last 200,000 miles or more?

I plan on buying a brand new 2017 camato if they do the sale this year. But what I want to know is are they any mods or parts that I should replace early on to help increase the long term reliability.

Is therenything that keeps the engine cooler or the 8 speed auto cooler I believe may help it last longer. Is that true? Any proven brands for better coolers. Any other items like catch cans or CAI help reliability?

I know about changing to full synthetic oil, and the more often the oil changes the better. Fixing items as soon as possible and being easy on the engine for the first 500 miles. Is there anything else at all (cost effective) that will help improve the chances that this car will last a very long time without big repairs.

Iknow reliability varies from one car to the next and the guy who changes oil every 20,000 miles might last longer than the guy who changed it every 3,000. I just want the best chance I can get. Also some have complained about rock tossing tires. Do the splash guys eliminate that issue or should I also put a clear wrap on the right after I purchase it?

my $.02. I do not consider 200k miles all that many miles. I think the vast majority of cars and trucks will goto 200k with basic maintenance and a few modest repairs along the way.

these cars have plenty of cooling stock.

synthetic oil of the recommended type when it tells you to change the oil. fresh oil actually causes more wear.

the only option I might consider if I planed on keeping the car that long is a decent oil catch can to keep some of the deposits off the intake valves.

IMHO....Save the money one would usually waste on mods. Throw it into an account to cover surprise repairs.

Does your Dealer offer an extended maintenance plan? But I'd INVESTIGATE any plan thoroughly before signing up.

I added the factory splash guards. They surely help, but do not eliminate road rash. Wrapping those areas affected would be smart.

Our oil IS already synth.

As the poster above said synthetic oil changes are the way to go also I would recommend flushing your radiator fluid and dropping the pan if you have an automatic and changing the filter in the fluid on the transmission and the power steering fluid at 100000k 60000 miles and if you live in a Rust Belt get your car oil sprayed or if it's the Camaro put it away for the winter if you can

Just follow the manufacturer service guide lines and don't skip out on it. Then your car will be fine.

and nobody mentions not redlining every shift, not pretending to be in the dukes of hazzard, etc? the easier you go on your car,the less chance of bad things happening mechanically.lets face it,if you were buying a used car, would you buy from somebodys old maiden aunt or from a high school age drag racer? how you drive will have an impact on how long your car lasts.

I've taken three cars in a row to 130,000 miles in about 8-10 years each. Mostly just typical wear items like brakes, clutch, tires, batteries, hoses, belts.

Change all fluids regularly, not just oil. I drain and refill the radiator annually, flush brakes every three years, oil/filter every 4,000 miles with Mobil 1/K&N filter, rear diff fluid on the manual GTO.

Two were Hondas with automatic that have a transmission drain plug so I drain and fill with every oil change (3.5 qt). I know it's only a fraction of the total volume but the frequency does the trick. They also needed timing belt service at 100k

The GTO needed a drivers power window motor and lock along with struts and radius rods. All at ~85k miles.

After start getting iffy due to age more than miles. Once you hit year 9 or 10, the wear starts showing.

Simple routine maintenance like everyone says. It's pretty easy to get a modern car to last a long time. What I like about at least the SS is that everything in the engine bay is easy access, unlike many modern cars where you can't get to anything, or the old 4th gen F-bodies with half the engine wedged under the dashboard. You can do all your own maintenance if you want, pretty easily. Oil changes, spark plugs, and coolant changes should be a snap. And changing the belts on the LT1 could be done by my 10 year old niece! Easy access actually makes working on your car fun, with little or no cussing to scare the neighbors!

As the general opinion don't nail the pin to floor while the engine is cold. Regular services as recommended are just fine. I just returned my old car with almost 200.000km. Not one issue aside the normal interval services. Ok i got a lot of Stone chips on the hood but this is the price for almost only highway driving.

This is surprising:

my guess is that my car will never see that milage under my life time. I don't plan on selling any time soon, and with almost 20 months under its belt with 3,800 miles I have a long way to go.
