Battery

My 2017 ZL1 just turned 5 years old and I still have the original battery.

It seems that when batteries are mounted in the trunk, they last a great deal longer.

My 2006 Dodge Charger had its battery in the trunk and it lasted 12 years.

Are others still on their original battery in their Camaro?

I put in a new battery in my 2016 2SS when it hit 5 years old. The old one was working OK, but with the new one I noticed it didn't need to crank as much to start.

Replaced mine at the 5 year mark. Right before putting her away for the winter.

Original battery on my 2017.
Maybe trunk location on some vehicles has less vibration.
I never expect more than 7 years from a battery. We'll see where this one ends up.

Certainly there's less heat in the trunk. I replaced my Camaro's battery after 6 years as preventative maintenance, based on experience with other cars: Recently, I had two SUV batteries die after a bit under 5 years.

Still, batteries are inexpensive. I don't see the point of trying to go over 7 years and risking a failure in an inconvenient or even dangerous situation.

I just bought a new Odyssey battery for my 2018. Being proactive.

Plus the ZL1 was my only vehicle without an Odyssey. I have had outstanding luck with them. Have not replaced one yet. The one in my Vista Cruiser is 15 years old.

I'm passing 4 years and I'm thinking if I by the slimmest of chances have it again next winter that I'll put a new battery in it. It cranks slow and after 3 days of sitting outside recently in <32 degrees it cranked pretty slow to the point I said "come on baby" before it lit. At least get it tested.

This is one of the easiest things to test.
A $2 centech voltmeter from harbor freight will let you accurately check the resting voltage, which is an excellent indicator of battery "life."
Easier than adding washer fluid.

To each their own, but with the prevalence of relatively inexpensive battery jump packs, I see no reason to replace batteries proactively. If your battery is 5-6+ years old, just throw your jump pack in the trunk. If it fails to start, jump it with the pack and then go buy the new one.

Batteries are also relativley inexpensive, but if you can get an extra 1, 2 or 3 years out of it, why not?

The Gen6 has an AGM battery. That is the primary reason. AGM can last up to 7 years, flooded batteries around 3-5 years.

I don't think all models got them in 2016-17. Maybe now. I'm pretty sure my 2017 is flooded cell. Never looked that hard to be honest.

I've had AGM batteries fail in under 5 years.
Battery life projection is part technology/part voodoo.
