FYI! Powersteering pump does not like you to do donuts!!
Ok so I was going to a college football game and I stopped at a gas station on the way. Some 60 year old man liked my car and wanted to look at it. He told me I should go in middle of parking lot and give him a show...I was like na I want to take it easy today and didnt want to do it. So then he told me I dont have any hair on my @$$ if I dont do it. So i figured I would do some donuts to shut him up. After I did the power steering pump quit working. First warranty fix my car has got.....lol just figured I would share

Yea. Power steering pumps will over heat and lock up if you do donuts, it's been that way for years. IMO that old man knew what would happen and wanted to see if you would be dumb enough to do it.

Well thanks for the info didn't know that. It wasn't like I did a bunch only 2 so didn't think it would lock up that fast. |

you gotta turn both ways to balance it out

Really though sorry to hear.Must be putting her on the stops full lock is creating too much pressure at the pump?Inadequate design or borderline at best! There was another post a while back same thing happened.Oh well lucky warranty is covering.

The issue supposedly is the pressure generated when the steering wheel is fully locked in one direction or the other. Ask any mechanic and they'll tell you it will damage the power steering.
What I would suggest doing is trying to avoid locking the wheel in either direction. I'm sure you can still get some nice donuts with the wheel not locked. I haven't tried this though because I want to save my tires

Actually the ones I've replaced have snapped the shaft due to the extreme pressure that the pump is producing while the steering is forced against the stops and the high RPM's, if it locks up it won't just quit working it will also loose the belt.
