Question on when to modify

I'm not sure where to post this, so I apologize it it is in the wrong spot.

I am looking to add a CAI, shorty headers, and exhaust. Now my question is, should I wait until the car is "broken in" or is it OK to do from day one?

Thank you all in advance!

There is no technical reason not to do your modifications now.

The problem is the sooner you do these, the sooner you will void your warranty.

Unless these are GM accessoiries installed by your dealer that is.

That mild of stuff is fine to do from day 1, i installed my longtubes and muffelrs about a week after I got mine. Was just waiting till break in for cam/heads and tune among other stuff. Some people do chargers or tunes or dyo pulls from the word go but some people like to break it in before that, its personal preference.

If anything is going to break, it will happen in the first couple of weeks. If you are worried about your warranty, just wait a few weeks to make sure everything is cool with your car, then do your mods.

Thank you all for your opinions. Another question, will the computer "learn" all the mods or will it definately need a tune?

It will learn them. If the cats stay in their original position (they should w/ the shorty headers), you wouldn't have to Tune.

You will gain 40 hp with a tune. The tune can also turn on the cooling fans quicker, eliminate the skip shift (1 - 4 shift), etc. It helps to ensure that you don't throw engine codes due to improved airflow function. Depending on the state you are in, the tune will help you pass emissions with the aftermarket parts. Tuning is a good thing...

It just depends on when you want your warranty to go away ?

I'm going to wait and put 2K miles on my car then add my mods.
Keep in mind by replacing the exhaust system as you are going to do you will only be losing your exhaust warranty. If you get a tune which is recommended since it will make the car run a lot better and safer then you will void your powertrain warranty.

You dont have to wait as long as 2k but imo its better to be safe than sorry if something does happen you have something to back it up.

You will never void your warranty. If for some reason your car has a problem and is taken in to get work done and GM finds that your mods are the cause for the problem then they can deny the claim, but your warranty is still there.
