Shoulda been better???
What is the consensus? I've always liked the Camaro over the Mustang ever since I bought my first '86 Z28 over an '87 LX that was at the same lot. But after an 8 year hiatus should the Camaro be objectively better than it is, especially given the hype of the new 5.0? GM should've gained ground, not stayed equal or lost it.

The 2010-2011 Camaro plays the role of the return of the Camaro, the 2011 5.0 plays the role it was given the next in line of 45+ years in a row of Mustangs. To each his own, but the 5th gen Camaro is what some us have dreamed of since seeing a first gen as kids.
Edited to add: the last Mustang I liked was the 1990 5.0 LX vert. in Green. Last edited by ketel0ne; 08-24-2010 at 06:07 PM. Reason: more info. |

Performance-wise, I agree. I do wish that the new Camaro was lighter, which would make it even more kickass.
But then I just take one look at my Camaro and remember why I didn't even consider buying a mustang. |

Considering the price GM offers this car at, it's perfection. It's an excellent platform to build from.

So your question is "shoulda been better against the 5.0 mustang?" Yet it competes for sales in other trim levels.
I believe in 2010 the SS was better than the 2010 Mustang? What are you comparing? the 11 SS against the 11 5.0, go drive em, and you will see they are really 2 different animals. I personally like my retro sportscars to have bowties, oh and personality. Last edited by ketel0ne; 08-24-2010 at 06:32 PM. |

I agree, the Camaro is one sexy beotch! Yes, the wait was worth it without question.
![]() Ya, it's almost 4000 lbs, ya it shoulda had this option and that option added as standard options - but then it would have been outta my price range. The Camaro is helping put GM back on the map with a dependable, nice-looking, affordable car that is equal to and rising above the competitions sales. Just look at last years Camaro sales. My two cents.

How on earth can you say that the Camaro stayed equal or lost ground? The 2010 Camaro came out and absolutely rocked the muscle car world. You do realize that if you are comparing apples to apples the 2010 Camaro SS has over 120hp more than the 2010 Mustang GT? The 2010 V6 Camaro has something like 100hp more than the 2010 V6 Mustang. The 2010 Camaro has a superior suspension, better brakes, better interior and more value for your money. Now yes Ford came out with the 5.0 in 2011 but what they are trying to do is catch up. It is the Mustang that is not desperately fighting to be equal....not the Camaro. Honestly I would say that regardless of what kind of fanboy you are, all Mustang lovers owe GM because if it wasn't for GM putting these big bad engines in the Camaro, Mustangs would likely still be underpowered. |
