thinking ahead need advice...

Well its still the summer this I know but I will be heading out the door to the big liter box in January and will be storing my TA and Camaro...

I have stored the TA through other deployments but never through a cold winter into the summer....

The cars will both be started up and ran (bring up to normal operating temp and then letting it run for about another 10 mins) once a week but not actually driven. (The wife is not allowed to drive either, Long story don't ask LOL )

Usually I'll put the TA up on a sturdy chassis jack and just have it started about once a week, but that was during January through May in southern Texas..

Plan on doing the same thing to the Camaro. Is there anything else I should do

When my parents store their summer cars, we usually just park them in storage and start them (and roll them back and forth a bit to turn over the transmission/rear end) once or twice on relatively warm days over the winter. If it is just for 4 months (not years), I wouldn't be too worried.

You may want to put Stabil, or some other kind of fuel stabilizer into the gas, particularly if there is 10% ethanol in the gas. Ethanol + cold climate + storage isn't a good combination.

There may be some recommendations in the owners manual about storage too. I've seen that on some sports cars.

P.S. Thank you for your service.:flag1:

I see that you have a ban on your wife driving them, and I won't ask, BUT... I'm heading to the big sandbox next month and we have a system set up for our single Soldiers living in the barracks that don't have anyone to give their cars to here at Fort Hood... their cars are stored indoors, started, and driven 1/2 mile every month to make sure all of the internals are "exercised" to maintain their integrity.
I agree with fiederLS3 on the Stabil, but you may want to revisit the moving of your car just to work the engine, tranny, and any other moving parts that need to be used.

true usually its just for 4 months but sounds like it will be a few months longer this time around and I'm actually gonna try to say longer yet LOL ...

When I was stationed in TX it was no issue, had tons of military/civilian friends to watch over it and take around but the weathers a lot different here LOL.

I got a few friends that could probably help out, since they wont be coming along just more worried about the cold more than anything. Not to many days during the winter months to drive a sports car up here LOL....

Tried that last winter with my V and got rear ended by a chick in a mini van from ALASKA WTF... her mini van with studded tires couldn't stop but my CTSV with bald rear tires had no problems LOL

As for the wife not driving, there are a couple issues.... She cant drive a stick very well, don't really want to go through the pain of teaching her on the SS. And second a slight trust issue after the last time she drove the TA. (almost 7 yrs ago LOL)

you should find a car storage facility. Here in San Diego for just under 100 bucks per month they will store you car indoors, jack it up, disconnect battery, start it once per week and wash it for you upon your return.....

That's actually a great idea (and program). I wouldn't want my car to sit for 9-12 months and not move. Just starting it wont get most of the internals going... it actually should physically move.

Now hopefully no one goes joy riding in it (you come back to thousands of extra miles).

Side note, good luck to the both of you. The Sandbox was an experience, but not one I'd like to repeat over and over (with a full family and great job lined up).
