Has anyone seen any research or had any personal experiences on what would be the best fluids to use with a V6 with an Auto? And I'm referring to Engine Oil, Transmission Fluid and Rear End, not just engine.

The two most critical issues for me are protection and lowest drag. (i.e. longevity and MPG/HP)

The three I'm thinking about are Amsoil, Redline, and Royal Purple.

Back in the 80's I used 100% Amsoil on a 79 Grand Prix running a Pontiac 400 with TH350 Trans and 3.73 gears. Ran low 14's on street tires easily and never had a bit of trouble. I Rebuilt the engine at 12,000 miles to put in a new balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly and engine looked like it had less than 100 miles on it. But that was 20 years ago, so I'm curious how the current versions are viewed in today's vehicles. (especially the Camaro V6 I'll be ordering soon.)

A secondary question: Has anyone run oil at a thinner grade than specified? like 5W-20 or lower? Results? Warnings? When I switched from 10W-40 to 5W-30 in said GP, I saw an improvement in MPG. So I'm thinking that might hold true now as well, but not sure.

neat feedback on AMSOIL, from back in the day when no one else knew what synthetic even was you were running it.
