Com Tech/Vmax motorsports/RevX
I know that none of these are sponsors anymore (i think only RevX WAS at one point) but I dont know where else to post this. Im hoping to not only get my problem resolved but potentially warn others about the situation.
approximately 3 years ago, I bought a RevX 95mm TB from vengeance racing. shortly after, the trans went out and then engine and it took me almost a year to get it back together and new TB installed. Car would hang open periodically when clutch was in and was coasting, wouldnt want to idle properly or just die, regardless of speed, etc. I assumed it was because it was not tuned. I ordered a mail-order tune from PCMforless (which was far from what i asked for and actually made the car run worse, but thats another issue entirely) and eventually had another local tuner working on it. Clutch went out so i compiled all parts for clutch/hydraulic/heads/cam swap. While this was going on, I found a thread about issues with the TB and a recall to modify them to work properly. I sent it back to TLewis for the repair. due to mechanical genius on my part, shortly after the engine gave out. The car sat for another year and a half before it got re-assembled and then bounced around local shops to be finished up (about 5 days worth of work, afaik) for 4 months before it finally landed at a reliable shop. The tuner called me and told me that the TB would not read 0 tps at idle (I believe it was closer to 7%?) well, by this time it was well beyond any form of replacement from Vengeance. After talking to Ron@Vengeance, i found that they too had issues with these throttle bodies. After talking to Ron, I find that RevX had gone out of business and played hell trying to contact TLewis. After finding him on the corvette forums and told him the issue, he told me that it was normal and there was nothing wrong with the TB and that I need to find a new tuner. Tuner says otherwise. TLewis referred me to VMax motorsports, who actually sold the TB to RevX (who apparently just relabeled it) and apparently called them before I could and gave them a heads up. VMax told me the same thing that TLewis did. At this point, I had picked up the car from the tuner because there wasnt anything else that could be done until the TB issue was fixed. That night, i swapped the 95mm RevX/VMax TB for a nick williams 92mm TB and car instantly ran better. smoother idle, did not DIE upon decel, didnt idle at 1500rpms (lowest the car would idle without dying) no tuning was done to acheive this either. After telling Ron@VMax what had happened, he finally told me to send the TB to him to look at.(Shipped out appx. Jan 13, 2011) He received it and said it looked ok. I told him that it wasn't and I would not accept that answer. He eventually agreed to send it to Com Tech precision machine, who made it apparently to check it out (appx. Jan 18, 2011). After almost 3 weeks of waiting for anything from either company, I contacted Pete@VMax asking what the situation was. He acted surprised that Com Tech had not made contact with me and that they were done with it for a while. I called Com Tech and he tells me that it looked fine too and the idle tps shouldnt be 0%. He agreed to actually put it ON a car (appx. Feb 3, 2011) and told me he would call me back when they were done. a few days later (appx. Feb 5, 2011) i call looking for results, to which he had none. I was told that it would go onto "a friend's car" that weekend and he would call me Monday. No call (no surprise) so i called tuesday looking for results. He told me he had not heard from the friend and would contact him and call me back. No call by thursday or friday so I call back. I am told that he was not able to do it that weekend and it would happen the upcoming weekend (the next day) and hed call me monday. That was the last time I had contact with Com Tech (appx. 21 Feb, 2011) when I call, it goes to answering machine/voice mail. After leaving at least 1 voice mail, I get no call back but they apparently answered for a friend that I had call them from a different state than I was in. I called back within a few minutes and got no answer. After calling periodically for the next 2 or 4 days, I gave up and contacted pete@VMax (05 Mar 2011) who said he couldn't do anything for me beyond try to make contact. Still nothing. As of 11:30 today (08 Mar 2011) I spoke with Pete@Vmax who informs me that he was able to make contact with Com Tech and they informed him that they would call me and were going to send the TB back. They did not specify with Pete@Vmax whether or not they put it on a vehicle to test it. I am currently waiting on a callback. $500 TB intake ported to intake, never ran right. $250 used TB fixed the issue. maker of the TB denies faulty part and refuses to answer phone. Com Tech Precision Machine Inc 12480 44th St N # A Clearwater, FL 33762-5102 (727) 571-1477 Tuner: Justune (Blue Springs, MO) Sorry for the long read but I feel that this may be the only way to remedy the situation. I've waited damn near 2 months to address it publicly. *Edit* as of 1140am (08 Mar 2011) I received a voicemail(phone did not ring) from Com Tech, stating that they were done with the TB and requested my address to ship it back.. The address I gave to Pete@Vmax not 10 minutes ago. I called back immediately, and no surprise, they did not answer. I left a voicemail with a clearly stated phone number. No response. If you have a similar situation with the companies involved, suggestions or advice, feel free to PM me. __________________ |

*edit* As of 1218am today (11 Mar 2011) I have not received a callback from Com Tech. I have called several times a day over the course of the passed 4 days and left a voicemail stating my name and phone number once daily. Pete@VMax does not seem to have any issues getting ahold of anyone there.

As of today (appx. 4:00pm 15 Mar 2011) I FINALLY made contact with ComTech after trying for weeks only to find out that "Nothing is wrong with your throttle body, and it has been shipped" Apparently, they realized they HAD my shipping information, as did Pete@Vmax (which must be why he no longer answers HIS phone or return my call when I leave a voicemail) and the TB is supposedly in the mail, no faults found. After arguing with them over the phone for a few minutes, I told them that its nice to know that their customer service is just a good as the junk part they sold me. The phone called pretty much ended here.
Apparently I now have a $500 paperweight because a company refuses to stand behind its product (or even properly test it). awesome job! |
