I say GM Forget Allotments and send to dealers with sold cars.
ARGGG.
Ok had to get that out of my system. Live in a small town of 12000 folks. The dealer says he is alloted 1 car. I know he has 3 buyers that have put down a deposit. I surely hope GM does build the cars that are sold and send them to those dealers. If I can't get mine because of some silly allotment I am going to be very sad. Yes I have cheked other dealers in 100 mile radius and they all want 3-10K mark up on the car. They have plenty of allotment they tell me to be sold. I am not stupid and going to pay over MSRP. Scott I hope you read this and can give some input on how GM handles this. Do really sold cars get delivered first? Thanks Scott |

Since Tomservo lives in swansea IL, I think he is talking about the ofallon IL dealership (which I am #2 of those 4 or 5 sold) I would get on yellowpages.com and give them a call. You may have to travel some, but that just gives you a little drive to break it in. My expierence with them so far has been good. Good luck scott

Reply from U-J Chevrolet Mobile, Alabama
We have 4 or 5 pre-orders left of our 15. We would love to get your friend on the list. Let us know when you are ready and we would be happy to assist. Thanks, David Sharp 251-633-3321

That was "estimated" allocation. Why don't they just get the orders in? There is nothing stopping them.

If the dealer is getting one and your number two then you don't get a car until at least 4th qtr, sport. Either you not in a hurry or your hoping GM's estimate is low and maybe you'll see something 3rd qtr. |

They will send cars to dealers who earned the allocation regardless of how many orders a particular dealer has. Here is why, lets say a guy like me know the camaros will sell quickly at first what would stop me from submitting 25 dummy orders to garner those vehciles for myself to sell? Chevy has an allocation system they come up with based on performance in a few different areas depending on what model it is typically it will be previous model sales but they factor in other things as well. I dont like it either but am just trying to explain it to you. There will be mnay of you have have "ordered" your Camaros who will not get them next year and there will be some of you who walk into a dealership and buy one right off the showrooom floor. Sad but true. I agree they should fill ALL confirmed sold orders. I am hearing that everyone who earned allocation are all going to get just 1 at first starting on the west coast and moving east. Then the next wave will have a few more of your earned allocation in them. I was told that NO one was getting multiple Camaros on the first shipment. This was not good news but was expected none the less.

Maybe someone from GM would be better able to explain this approach.

you are exactly right the spreading the initial ones out will indeed build up demand in all regions and increase overall sales.

All, I just think there are too many unknowns at this time for us to make any clear conclusions about how this is going to roll out. The original allotment numbers seem to have been removed from the launch site (posted in another thread here) and it was rumored that they were being "adjusted" based on the pre-order demand. So that, along with what specific cars they can produce starting when (V6 vs. V8), production capacity (cars per day), production ramp, etc, will all come into play. It certainly is fun to speculate though.

Let me get this straight....
A dealer can submit orders beyond what they are allocated? There's nothing stopping them from placing an order? So, what if there are dealers out there with an allocation of say 10 cars and 30 guys come in to "order". The clever dealer says "Better hurry, I only have one left!" to all 30 guys, and all 30 guys plunk down a $1000 deposit to get "the last one". It SOUNDS like we have a situation where 20 guys were duped into placing a deposit on a car that was entered into the order system BEYOND the dealers allocation, and they were told they were actually one of the allocated cars. When the cars DON'T get pulled for build because they were not allocated, the 20 guys each get told some long winded story about SS or leather or Wheels or some option being on "Constraint" and it might take a while to get the order built. In theory, some seedy dealer could be raking in deposits for Camaros which they cannot possibly fullfil, leaving buyers in limbo until the order is eventually built... and out of a depost all the while. What proof can a customer get that his order was actually within the dealer's allocatiion?!?!?! |
