Maybe theres a thread on this somewhere, but after searching I cound't find it, so if this is redundant please forgive me
.I'm just curious... How do you find the road noise level in your Camaro? I've had mine for about a month now, and here's what I'm talking about. At highway speeds on newly laid pavement my Camaro is relatively quiet. But get on older pavement with rougher surface and the noise level becomes quite annoying. It's noisy enough that carying on a conversation in the car becomes difficult, the body vibration causes the HUD to vibrate. I have two other cars, and old 73 Vette and a 2004 Colorado pickup, neither of them is as bad as the Camaro. In fact the pickup is so quiet on any road surface that people riding with me have compared it to a Cadilac. Even the 37 year-old Vette has less road noise than my 2011 Camaro. Now I know I bought a sports car, but it's a 2LT and I would have thought and hoped that road surface isolation technology might have improved by the second decade of the 21st century. Should I blame those 20" tires or should I blame GM, or do I just have a Camaro that's an anomily? |

My SS is one of the quietest cars I have ever owned. I have no complaints on the noise level on any driving surface.
Sometimes its too quiet so I open the windows so I can hear the engine.

Take a look under your rear seat and the rear trunk floor and the unibody undercarriage. This car has NO unibody insulation. Drive over a gravel road- It's like being in an empty coffee can. Do a "search" or check out www.raammat.com.
I did my entire unibody floor, 1/4 panels, wheelhousings, etc with insulation tiles and now it's quiet and tight as can be. My one DIY thread has photos of the tiles before and after.

Quiet car. Minimal wind/road noise. And the 9-speaker Boston Acoustics premium audio sound system drowns out just about everything.

i seriously figured with the size of the wheels and profile of the tire that i'd hear a lot of road noise... i barely hear anything at all with windows up, radio/ac off and going 70+... only time i hear anything is going low speeds babying over bumps... but what car isnt gonna do that...

pennor, I also noticed this on my drive of a car that was one of the first off the line in April 2009.
The car had superior noise isloation in the front. It almost was a quiet as a luxury car. But I def heard a good bit of road noise coming from the rear. Maybe it was because the front was so silent that it made the noise from the rear more noticeable? |

The 20s will be noisier than 19 and 18s but what you describe doesn't sound normal either.
I've driven every configuration of Camaro and none were noisy and had vibrations like you are describing. Might be worth a trip to the dealer. Ask to take the service manager for a ride on the roads you described.
