Losing 5 lbs pressure every 4 days in right rear tire
I literally have to fill this one tire with 5 lbs. air every 3-5 days.
I've searched the forum and can't find anyone else with this problem. I've had the dealer check the tire and they said no leaks yet 2 days after getting it back the warning icons light up and I'm down to 29-30 lbs. I've confirmed each time by my manual pressure gauge so it's not the sensor. I'm very frustrated. It's ridiculous having to fill my tire every 3-5 days....any ideas? |

How is the dealer checking for leaks? You will need to find a dealer/tire shop that has a "dunk" tank where they can submerg the entire tire. Theres has to be a leak either from the tire, valve stem or the rim itself

You could take a bucket of soapy water and wash the wheel and tire. Look for bubbles. If you can back the car up to rotate the tire. Check inside and outside and the full tread.
5 pounds in 3 to 5 days is a very slow leak. But soapy water should result in some visible bubbles. This is hopefully what your dealer has already done, but you might be a bit more thorough and find it.

Had the same problem. Took it to a tire shop, who found the nail. All is good...

I'm with Number 3. Check for leaks yourself with a water/soap solution.
But personally, first I'd check out the valve core itself in valve stem. Pick yourself up a $2 (if even that much) valve core tool and see if the core needs snugged down.

They probably used a water dunk tank, which is hard to see small leaks.
Soapy water as mentioned before will show the leak. Slop some soapy water all over the tire and watch for bubbles. Tread surface, bead, valve stem... Probably a small nail in the tread. Pour the soapy water over the tread, wait and watch, pull car ahead and repeat. |

I've had this problem with my 37 year old Corvette with aftermarket mags. The tires are fine but the air seeps out through a porus wheel casting. Have the dealer dunk the wheel in a tank and look for a leak, not just in the tire but in the wheel as well.

Had the same thing, took it to discount tire, was a nail in the tire.
Started again, took it back, patch had came loose. They fixed that, so far about 10 months now and no issues. ![]() Quote:

We had this problem on our G8, the dealer put the wheel/tire assembly in a dunk tank. It turned out that the rim itself had a small pinhole in it from the casting process. they had to replace the rim. no problems since

I had a problem like that with a set of brand new rims and tires, first they broke the bead down and reseated it and that didn't work, then a new valve stem and that didn't work. The last time I went back they did the "dunk test" and sure enough, on the inside of the rim on the flat spot there was a pin hole so they ordered a new rim and replaced it, no more low tire. Have them do a "dunk test" and you should find a problem.

So the dealership where I bought it said they took the tire off and tested it for leaks, found none. I take it to Power Chevrolet by my house and they find a staple in it after looking for about 5 mins. All fixed. Unbelievable that the first shop couldn't find it, IF they even looked.
