Question So, is it me?

I have a 2011 SS/RS M6. My previous car was a 2000 Z28 A4. The driving dynamics are completely different. In the new SS, I don't feel that neck snapping acceleration like I did in the old Z. I know I'm actually going fast, for my speedometer tells me so. Is it the difference between an auto & manual or is it just me? Anyone else feel this way?

I kind of feel the same way. I think with traction control on the power to the rear tires is slightly limited, if you turn t/c off the rears may want to break loose. Try turning t/c off and apply the throttle hard but not enough to break the tires loose.

Maybe I am dreaming...

Does the TC limit power during regular driving?

Depends on how you drive regularly...

Data

I rode once in a 2000 camaro SS/6-spd and it feels frighteningly scary fast. it's just a very light car. with no IRS it will make it take off faster also.

It's not just you. I believe it's mainly the gearing and the weight that makes these cars feel like that. It just doesn't feel very nimble.

It could be the difference in suspension also.....

The SS delivers power very smooth under high acceleration.....

My car is at 537rwhp and it still feels very smooth and under control.....

Mine felt like that until I put the supercharger in it. It feels lighter now!

I agree with the other who said to try turning off TC and see how it feels.

The thing I noticed w/ my 2010 (my first Camaro) is that it has a way of sneaking up on you when it comes to going fast. I'm used to my 04 Ram 2500 w/ 35" tires so when I'm in the Camaro I don't realize how fast I'm going until it's almost too late. I'll admit that when I get used to the Camaro it doesn't feel like off the line speed is amazing, but then I look at just how fast I'm going and I realize that this is a pretty fast car. I think that the car is so smooth that sometimes you just don't realize how fast you are going.

If theres one thing I learned racing its that just because it feels faster doesn't mean it is faster. Even when I've rallied, my fastest runs have felt slow due to control of the car and the smoothness of my driving. Its just less frantic, and that frantic feeling feels fast.

The suspension of the 5thgen is far more advanced, and the car is heavier, so it feels more planted, balanced, and smooth. What does that mean for everyone? Better lap times (all things being equal), a more comfortable ride, a more stable car in all situations, and it feels slower, maybe even less fun.

i dont have data on this but ive heard that there is a torque management that gets more and more aggressive as you turn nanny stuff off.
i normally put my car in sport just after my hand comes off the key to start it every time. in full nanny mode the torque seems to kick in hard just after 3500 rpm but its a prius until then. in sport mode it comes in a lot quicker. i have only driven it once in no nanny mode but there was PLENTY of torque then. and smoke.

I haven't laid down any rubber yet, but I've done some spirited on ramp merges I'll try it w/o TC.

Heres a tip, get a Jannetty custom tune and turn the Torque management system off. It will turn your car into a totally different beast.

My L99 was pretty tame stock. Not bad for sure but not amazing. Put some add ons on the car, CAI, LT headers, HF cats and corsa exhaust. Made a noticable difference. Then got a Jannetty custom tune and MAN, that made a hell of a difference. Totally different car now.

Took her out last week with a couple friends. One was a pretty big guy, nearly 300 lbs. I am 215 lbs and the other was around 165 so nearly 700 lbs of meat in the car.

Pulled to a stop on an old back road. Turned the TC and SC off, put her in M mode and downshifted to 1 gear. Stood on the brakes until I was at around 1200 rpms and then popped the throttle and the car just jumped a bit and did not move.

My friend that was crammed in the back seat asked what happened. I said nothing, look behind you. When he saw the white smoke rolling out from the shoulders of the rear end he realized what was happening.

I rolled it out and then came to another stop. This time I ran the revs up to around 1500 and then launched. They both were impressed.

Now certainly nothing like a SC camaro but I would say easily halfway between stock and a SC performance. Turning off that torque management system makes a HUGE difference!!! I am not sure if its in the LS3 cars but I would assume it is.
