LS3 has a hard time maintaining RPM at low speeds
OK maybe I am just not used to a performance car, or my throttle by wire sytem is off.... I don't know, but when I am going 8-11MPH and I am holding the throttle STEADY my car lunges every half second or so, there is about a 100 RPM shift on the tach each time this happens. This didn't seem to be the same issue as the other LS3 Herky Jerkies thread... At this point the clutch is fully disengaged. This is reproducible 80% of the time for me.

Funny you say that. This happens to me too going around 8-11. I haven't looked at the RPMs but my car will "buck" forward like yours. It always seems to happen right as I start my car and drive slowly (cold engine). When I've run the car for about 10 minutes and go in the 8-11 mph range again it doesn't lunge.
I just figured it was because the engine wasn't warmed up. But maybe there is a problem? Can anyone comment on this?

that does sound like the herky Jerkies to me. It goes away after a few minutes of driving.

My car does this after the engine is completely warmed up. For example after 10 miles of driving during rush hour. So after about 20 minutes of driving my car did this just yesterday

a plus or minus 25-50rpm hunt is normal on the LSx engine.

I've had the same issue with my LS3. It seems to me its a warm up issue, since it does go away after a few minutes of driving. My solution is to clutch in, and then on my next take off from a stop sign or light or such, accelerate quickly taking the RPM up to about 4500-5000. That usually stops it for me.

well I did a test the other day and I realized that I could get the car to roll at about 8-9mph just by letting the clutch out slowly and not applying any gas. Maybe my car was thirsty for gas and I should be using the clutch at 8-10mph? Maybe this is my stupidity, but my last car was a 150hp truck that bogged down and died if I let out the clutch slowly without giving it any gas. Should I really be using the clutch at all beyond the first few mph?
During my test with the clutch, the engine was probably at 800 RPM @8-9MPH, without the clutch and at 8-9mph, I think I remember the engine was at 1000 RPM and jumping to 1100 on its own.

Only when I get unsmooth and let the drivetrain surge. And when its cold. Other than that its user controllable for me.

First off, when you have a vehicle(no matter if its a truck or car) that has a big engine, you should always let your engine warm up before use. If you cant wait 5 mins to warm it up, you should drive it slow at first, low rpm's, and wait till your engine temp gets up a lil. Doing stop and go traffic on these big engines can also put added strain and they seem to want to jump idle a little. Think how every 2-5mins they are having to go from idle to 1st, 2nd, maybe 3rd just to brake again and do it all over again. I advoid all stop and go if possible. If you want a quick car that is designed for high traffic and for potential high speeds should go with a turbo 4 cyclinder. These are large displacement torque machines. This is why I could not imagine how bad it would suck to drive in the city stop and go with a supercharger. It is a bad ass looking car that has more than enough go power. However, in stop and go, I spend most of my time yelling at evryone braking and all the red lights just because I know what it is doing to my car, my mpg's, and my drivers fatigue. This, as well as the influx of more drivers, is why most big displacement cars are getting automatics. If it is a burden to drive in your area, you may start to wonder why you got it...That is until you get to the highway or open road where it makes you get a smile from ear to ear. It is a fun car to drive on the highway, but do to the large displacement, manual, and the plentyful blindspots I would not want to buy this if I had lived in a city with lots of lights and stop and go traffic.
