One of my co-workers who is a BIG Dodge fan and is considering a Challenger has mentioned they had "over 28,000" orders prior to manufacture.

Can anyone confirm that?? It just doesn't make sense almost a 3 to 1 ratio in "pre-orders". Is he BS'ing me???

Most definitely;

Wikipedia says:

"The entire 2008 run of 6,400 cars were pre-sold (many of which for above MSRP), and production commenced on May 8, 2008."

And I've seen these sitting on lots since October now, so I can't imagine that 28,000 were pre-sold.

Cant confirm numbers, but I can tell you that 6 of the 10 that were preordered ay my local dealer were never picked up by the guys that ordered them.

Also, didn't Dodge start taking pre-orders for the Challenger way before Chevy did for the Camaro though?

They didn't even sell 28K cars, let alone have 28K preorders. You go to that guy and tell him he is full of ****.

they had pre orders on all 6400 08 models....only about 3000 were actual buyers the rest were dealers using fake names.
the guy is full of it and is one of the reasons why I am leaning away from mopar....

I have a feeling the Challenger will suffer the same fate as the Thunderbird reincarnation as well as the SSR and Prowler.

Yes, it's a nice car...but once the "new" wears off...it's not "retro" anymore.

There are 2 dodge dealers close to my house. One has 3 of them and the other has 4 of them sitting on the lot and cant give them sum-bit**es away!
