With a high stall convertor do you want to lock it or unlock it for quarter mile runs

With a single disc fti 3600 convertor I have so many different opinions. First the owner of fti sais to keep it unlocked. Then I heard it is ok to lock it at 100 plus on wot. The vendor told me it takes lots of power and I can lock it. My tuner to be sais to leave it unlocked.

We are waiting for hp tuners to release new software which will allow it to lock on partial throttle. So you do not get the rpms going up and down.

So will you get more performance down the quarter with it locked or unlocked? Unlocked till 100 and then lock it?

This is a g8. But it uses the same trans. as the camaro.

Single disk needs to stay unlocked.

Like the guy above me said, you can't lock a single disc converter. I believe you'll cook the clutch. I had on come apart from doing this and it wasn't pretty. It took out the pump.

Leave it unlocked like Greg from FTI told you or you will ruin your converter.

Thanks for the input. I will do so.

Right now I have the superchips tune on it. It is way past it's potential since I have headers and the stall.

The person in Phoenix who is going to do the tune is well known. He wants me to be patient since new software will be out anytime from hp tuners which will lock the convertor on partial throttle thereby making the driving experience better on the city streets.

Is the convertor locking on full throttle now with the superchips tune???

As they all said.Leave it unlocked.Only the multi disks can be locked and even them they need to be rebuilt in time. Alot of people are waiting for the tranny tune -promise from alot of tuning company's. We really need full control of these tranny's.

Leave it unlocked. If you had a triple disk and wanted to know where to lock it, then you should do two dyno pulls in 4th... one forcing it to lock from the start, and one leaving it unlocked the entire time. Graph both pulls against vehicle speed... NOT engine RPM. Where the two graphs cross is where you should lock it. If you have long gears, then do that with 3rd as well.

Since it's a single, I wouldn't push it.

I will not. Greg said I can lock it from 100 plus. But I do not even think this is possible with hp tuners. I just hope it is not locking now with the superchips tune on full throttle. I do have at least a large transmission cooler in the front bumper.

My 3200 is a LU converter but I need a trans tune BAD because I think it struggles about half the time to lockup!!!
