Whine/Whistle
Hey guys,
Have a problem that just started this evening, and wanted to get some feedback. I've already made an appointment with my dealer. Seems to be a whine/whistle from the front drivers side quadrant of the car. Really pronounced sound, especially when rolling slowly. It doesn't matter if the wheel is turned or if going in a straight line; still a very distinct whine. When reversing into a parking space though, the whine goes away. No whine at stand still either. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

MINE ALSO!

There is a factory bulletin out to place a tube in the heater return line to quiet the noise.Maybe this is the source?

Mine is more of a whine. It almost sounds as if something is rubbing somewhere. It doesn't seem to get louder as the RPMs go up. I'm not sure what to think at this point... |

Done some looking around the net and some talking with some folks and the idea was brought up that potentially a wheel bearing. Anyone have any issues since taking ownership with their wheel bearings?

wheel bearings? Very very unusual to go bad so soon. I doubt it is the bearings. If noise does not follow the engine RPM, rule out the belt, intake leak, engine, etc. etc. My guesses
1. warped brake disc 2. dirt, sand, pebble got in the brake calipers. 3. something stuck in the tire |

As for your guesses, I got down and did a visual inspection on the area and found nothing unusual. So, I'm at a loss of words. I'm taking it in tomorrow, so I'll report back what happens at the dealership. |

This can be the wind / air moving through the gap between your window and driver side rear view mirror. It only happens for me up to a certain speed. Next time roll down your window it will be louder place your hand in the gap if it goes away......

The verdict was that the specific pads on the car were causing the whine. There's a TSB for cars with a specific VIN that calls for a re-engineered set of pads to be put on the car that will supposedly fix that.
We'll see when they come in. As of now, there's whine has gone away with nothing done to the car. |

Take a look at my posts. It might be a bearing in the drive shaft.
Sounds very similar to the problem I had. |
