Outlawing Hot Rodding?!?

http://blogs.hotrod.com/6688042/car-...ing/index.html

According to this article, Washington is trying to outlaw Hot Rodding. First of all and most off topic, where are all of our freedoms going? I love living in a country where people have the right to tell everyone else they DONT have the right, "you have complete freedom...inside this tiny tiny bubble". Second how would they even regulate that? How would they say "that sounds like it probly doesnt have proper emissions, you better take it off the road"
I dont know if this has been posted before or not but im posting it now cause its really got me fuming, im already hating how horrible America has gotten with its idea of "freedom" and now they want to do this? Its rediculous.

If you feel like making a contributiong to this (against the outlawing of hot rodding) check out this site

God how many times do I have to tell you guys, its an election year, if you see a bill in your state like this tell your congress that either they nix it or you will not vote for them.

Get groups together & form a car club group that will stand up the the government.

Washington state did this for a few years & we help get many laws pass that helped the hot rodder & other got stopped because of it. We still have groups of people working with us.

Have you ever heard of SEMA?

You don't have to be a "player" in the hotrod biz to be a part of this terrific organization. They have a "regular guy" entity to work with all of us to promote the hotrodding world. It's called the SEMA Action Network, or SAN...

http://www.semasan.com/san/join.aspx

No charge. Turn your concern into action...everyone of you!

The SEMA organization would never let it happen. They have too much public backing, plus there are all the business that specialize in performance parks that this would hurt.

Partly true, Mike, but there IS "security in numbers". The more voices SEMA/SAN speaks for, and the wider-spread throughout the country, the better.

I just don't see how they could "outlaw" hot rodding. I don't think they truely have any idea how many jobs are linked to "hot rodding". If it was gone the country would shut down, not to mention most of the advances in engine efficiency come from hot rodders.

My apologies for digging up an old thread but I feel, as Director of the SEMA Action Network (SAN), that it is important to address this.

There are in fact forces actively at work across the country seeking to dismantle America’s car culture through a number of legislative and regulatory means. Things like mandating the use of E15, increasing registration fees for specialty vehicles like antiques and street rods, and outlawing the use of aftermarket exhausts have all been proposed.

That’s why it is important that we all unite to oppose these threats and sound-off loudly to help support pro-hobbyist reforms. Joining SAN (www.SEMASAN.com) is the best way to do that.

This X 1 billion! With the "we know what is best for you" mentality in Washington it is only a matter of time before modifying a car is cast as being politically incorrect. After all, its bad for the environment.

You are correct but that hasn't stopped them going after the banking/investing industry, oil industry, auto industry, health care industry, etc..

Most of those mentioned are only interested in profits. By that I mean profits in the extreme at any cost (think big picture) not profits that are reasonable. They don't care about anyone else or the long term effects of their decisions.
