Edelbrock Perfomance and Warranty?

So does anyone here have one of these yet? How does it run? What really got my attention was the extra warranty you can get. For 750.00 you can get a 60 month/100K mile warranty which ever comes first for the drivetrain. The cool thing is you can buy that as long as you car has less than 50K miles on her.

Looks like what I will start saving up for.

There are several people with this kit already, from what i've seen the gains are similar to Maggies (both tvs2300)

However, Take a close look at the fine print on that warranty though. If you do ANY other modifications, don't have the oil changed by a authorized shop every 3k miles, or have it installed by anyone besides a Edelbrock auth shop...your warranty is gone. They don't have to abide by the Magnuson Warranty Act like dealserships, so if you have aftermarket mufflers, or a CAI, you're SOL.

Not to mention the warranty only covers the engine up to $5,000 and the rear end up to $1500 (i don't know all the numbers off the top my head, but it doesn't cover what the parts are worth)

I'm not bashing the kit, if I go the SC route this is the kit i would go with, but I doubt I would spend any extra money on that warranty

Scott, long time my friend. I concur with above statements. Don't buy it for the warranty as you will be pushing past it very fast. Stock out of the box with the 3.5 pulley I was at 527RWHP 495 torque. But I had 400RWHP 402 torque before the install due to CAI and exhaust mods. Then went to the 3.25 pulley which increased boost to 9 lbs. 578 RWHP 588 Torque after dyno tune. A month later burned the ring off my #4 cylinder and lost compression. Pulled motor and built it with forged internals, cam, springs, chain etc.....my message to my friends would be to start with the internals.(About the same cost as the SC), and work your way up. I think that once you really start looking at the internal parts you will find that it is vital to do that right if you want your car to last and dont want to worry about it every time you take it to the track or jump on it on the highway. Powder forged rods, cast alum pistons....blaaahahk..total junk for high HP cars.
After internals, fuel delivery and associated misc components to prepare properly for SC application. My experience was one that many have encountered by starting with the SC....The need and unexpected build of the bottom end. Now if you are going to stay bone stock everywhere else and leave the stock pulley on and are happy with the 500RWHP Sub 500 torque numbers and the Canned SVT tune which will not address your torque management issues on the Auto trans then the Edelbrock warranty is pretty cool.
Hope this all made sense. Larry

Scott,

I installed my e-force supercharger in september and i love it. Install was straight forward, and the power it makes is fantastic. My car is all stock except for a roto-fab CAI. I have high flow cats i still have to put on.

I will say one thing, the edelbrock tune is as good as a factory tune, but i did an email tune from JRE and there is no comparison.

I wouldnt worry about the warranty.

I had mine installed in June. Love it. Don't waste time with the warranty. I did just for piece of mind, but like they said, you can't do anything else to the car power-wise.

I only paid for the 36 month option, knowing I'd have it re-tuned in the Spring. So, it's only going to be a nine month warranty for me. Now that I think about it, they never sent me any paperwork on it like they told me they were. Doesn't matter, it'll be sitting in the garage till Spring.

Edel's tune is very conservative, it's around 470 rwhp now but still tons of fun. If that's all the power you want, then go the warranty route, but with as many as I've seen installed on here, I think you're safe without it. Only one's I've read with blowouts have been heavily modified, so E's warranty wouldn't be good anyways.

I can't wait till next year to unleash even more power out of it. Not sure about the smaller pulley route, but it sounds like it's necessary if I want headers. I was hoping to avoid the engine re-build route by limiting the power to around 550 rwhp. Everybody keeps saying that's the threshhold where you end up having to replace everything else on the car to handle more power.

True, you can purchase the warranty when you want it. But be careful, the warranty you purchase is dated back to when the vehicle "goes into service". This means, if your car is 4 years old, with 25k miles and you purchase the 60month/100k warranty, you only have 2 years of coverage left. They backdate the warranty to the day it was driven off the lot, not when the SC was installed or the warranty purchased. Kinda sucks.

Just curious: I have headers with my Edelbrock, 3.5" pulley, as do quite a few of the installs I am aware of. Why are you thinking that you need a smaller pulley with headers?

A friend and I installed the E-Force on my SS about 2 months ago. Had it dyno tune 3 weeks ago. With mods in sig it got 546/rwhp and 522/rwtq. I'm satisfied with the power that gives me. Didn't get the warranty.

I keep hearing that headers will lower the boost so you need the smaller pulley to make it up.

Thanks, that's about right where I want to be.

I've put one on my Xmas list ... I've seen several on other cars and the thing I really like about them compared to other brands, is they are stealthy ... You don't get the whine like a Maggy, which is something I like a lot. I will want others to think my car is stock, other than exhaust ... I've also noticed the price coming down on the kits as well. Online I've seen them as low as $5400.00, not bad ...

Well it is all a savings game for me. And the way things go saving is sucking bad. Last week battery on Acura, there goes a couple hundred bucks. Today garage spring broke. So going to get both replaced and look at any other wore out parts while out it.

I do keep bouncing on the fence though. Do a supercharger or do cam, longtubes and maybe heads. The MAST 3 CAM and HEAD's for the L99 look like a nice package.
