Camaro fender stripes, origins? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have been wondering where the hash/ 2 fender stripes came from on the Camaro. And this in no way is a bash on those who have it on their 5th Gens (I think it looks cool), just merely a question of origins on the Camaro. I have yet to see it on a 1st Gen, I haven’t looked too much into other years as 1st and 5th are the comparison, is it from the 2nd-4th Gens?. Is it a heritage thing? I know it is on the Corvette Grand Sport and Challenger, just never seen it on a 1st Gen Camaro. If someone could enlighten me it would be much appreciated. Thanks

You are right, they are from the Grand Sport Corvette... just look cool on the Camaro.

It's Corvette heritage. People have added them to Camaro's cause it looks cool.

"The original 4 '63 Grand Sport racers that ran at Nassau were trimmed and painted exactly the same. The pit crews put strips of duct tape on the cars front left fenders to tell them apart when they came into the pits.
One stripe on car #1, two on #2 etc."

Seems like that would be kind of difficult if you had car #88.

Definately a Corvette racing thing... but there was a pre-production race car sporting them in 2008

Actually the FBodfather put them on the GMMG ZL1 prototype around 01. I liked them and started putting them on the 01& 02 THR Camaros. I think he got the idea from the 63 Corvette Grand Sports. I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong.
