Interview with Ed Peper on 1/13/09

Interview with Ed Peper on 1/13/09 and picture:

http://blog.cardomain.com/2009/01/13...-of-chevrolet/

"Rob had some more Camaro questions, and Ed told us that there are 10,000 sold pre-orders for the car. The V8 version is a clear winner, with about 80% of build so far. The build will start on March 16th up in Oshawa. Camaro enthusiasts will be treated to a very extensive accessories program that may rival the Silverado program (GM’s largest)."

That may be where they make a lot of their money. When I went on KBB to price the car, there are several very expensive optional wheel packages and a lot of stripe packages. I guess there will also be a bunch of GM add-ons that people will think they have to have. Hey, just give me the big engine and the polished wheels (and maybe a shifter).

But hey, anything that can keep the General solvent is fine with me!!

I'll bet the V-6 cars catch up in orders after the initial enthusiasm wears down a little- overhead cam, variable valve timing engine- it's really the most impressive engineering advancement and for the low 20's?? Sheesh!!

I was surprised to hear 80% of the first 10,000 orders were for V8's. I know 85% of the first 6,000 orders were V8's but I thought I read subsequent orders were closer to their original model projections of 50% V6 and 50% V8.

This is one beautiful car!

If I wanted to be a smartass, I would say that even 84.99% would be closer to 50-50 than 85% is. But I won't.

~5000/6000 Camaros were SS initially. Then of the next 4000 there were only 3000 SS's. Thats a drop from 85% to 75%, which is still a significantly higher percentage than expected. Added together they average out to 80%.

anyone have a link to side-by-side comparisons and/or pics of the V6 and V8 models?

I'm leaning towards the V8 for my purchase, but if the V6 looks almost as good as the V8 (not to mention it has the same hp as my current car), I might get that one instead for gas saving purposes, while still having a bad a$$ car.

thx

Up in post 6? That's a V6 model.
The Red one at NAIAS is an SS...I'll see if I can find more.

Basically, anything you see with that mailslot scoop is an SS.

as for looks, basically, the only difference is the front fascia (mail slot, lower grille size, & slight differences in the lower bumper), and suspension height. both models can have the spoiler & 20s. the main difference is whether or not you need/want the great performance or the awesome performance. i won't go into the differences there, they're all over the place. if gas is a concern, the V6 will be a perfectly acceptable car (you get great economy for a sports car & can still hold your own against just about any wanna-be)

hmmm.....I wonder if you could replace the V6's front bumber assembly with that of a V8's....

that alone would make the cars almost identical....save for what's under the hood...

although I doubt the dimensions for the bumper assembly would be the same in both models....

and with the inclusion of aftermarket body kits/engine upgrades, the V6 could theoretically become as bad a$$ as you want it to be.

a little food for thought
