Touchless Car Washes - The Good and the Bad

Hey boys & girls! Another "brutha' in his garage production" coming your way!

This time I talk about the pros and cons of touch-less car washes. A lot of people think that touch-less is always the answer but as I make clear in these videos, it is not always the best route to go. There is nothing wrong with the touchless car wash process itself, it is what is done after the wash that will make or break your paint job.

Let me make sure that everyone understands that in this video, my car was driven in a light downpour. For someone who drives in a normal or heavy downpour, your car will have a much tougher film of dirt on it, especially if you allow it to dry in the sun. This film is what will create those nasty swirls over time if you continually address them wrong.

With that said, let's get to the videos!

Wow, great info (again), Jukeman! I totally dig the idea of using the quick disconnects... never thought of doing that. Oh, one last thought... thanks for offering up your C5 for all your vids... not sure I could do it.

Those quick-disconnects are the bomb! They make switching devices a "dry" experience as I'm sure we have all been soaked once or twice while connecting stuff to our hoses!

Great video Junkman!

May I add in as well, the Junkman covered how ineffective touchless car washes can be in removing dirt, but one thing he didn't mention is the harsh soap and detergents used at most car wash places that will quickly strip any wax/sealant currently on your car. This is why most car washes add beading agents in their rinse water: to make you think your finish is still beading well.

If you'd like to confirm this, simply take your car to a touchless place, then get home and give it a normal two-bucket wash. When you're finished with your wash and you go to do your final rinse, look how poor your beading is :(
