Question to anyone with MGW shifter

I have a 2011 2ss and I have a very slight click as I shift from 2nd to 3rd gear as a lot of other people have as well. I was curious as to if anyone has had the same issue and corrected it by installing the MGW shifter. I have changed out my tranny fluid to mobil 1 and no change. I can feel it in my hand thru the shift, and I was hoping it may be fixed with a shifter upgrade.

I have had the same problem since day 1 like so many have reported in these threads! I installed a Hurst shifter and it actually was a little MORE noticable. My next try is the MGW. I doubt it will help but I have heard it is a much better shifter. My transmission is going to be replaced soon due to this problem, not only 3rd gear but 2nd also! I'm going to have them install the MGW when they change out the trans and then I'll report my results!

Usually, aftermarket market shifters are noisier than stock. It's pretty well documented that the Hurst produces more audible clicks during gear changes than the stock shifter (they always have, shouldn't have been a surprise). All short throws require more effort to shift due to the leverage needed for the shorter stick/throw. Also, the bushings in the stock shifter tend to keep it quieter than aftermarket units, but the bushings are usually better quality in the aftermarket models.

Good luck to you ssmike! I have noticed mine for quite a while too. I only have 900 nice miles on mine. It isn't real bad on mine, but I'm a perfectionist about my vehicles. It seems like I can shift fairly quick into any gear, but 3rd goes in better if I give it an extra split second after I push in the clutch before I move the shifter. I had a 69 nova I put a richmond 6 speed into and it acted the same way going into 3rd. I just makes me mad!

Thanks! Yea I'm kind of a perfectionist too and I do understand that nothing is going to be perfect! Thing is though, after spending $37,000 on a new car I wouldn't expect such notchy shifting! I have found out that this is a pretty normal problem with the Tremec6060 and some are better than others. Mine happens to fall somewhere in the middle of the ones I've read about here and yours actually is on the better side! I'd give it a little while and maybe get better after break in! It's very important though to bring it in to your dealer and at least get it on record for future referance in case it does get worse. I'd put the stock GM fluid back in before bringing it to the dealer. Dealerships won't do anything about it till it either breaks or you nag them and GM enough! Good luck!

The shifter upgrade will not do anything to fix a synchronizer issue. It is hard to tell how bad the notchyness is over the interweb but many people have the "feel" of notchyness especially in the 1-2 or 2-3 shift. The different type of synchro rings used in this tranny are likely the reason for that IMO.

For me the notchyness was more noticeable when the tranny was cold and it seems to have gotten better after the M1 fluid change and a few thousand miles. It is pretty smooth now. I don't worry about it anymore.
